Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.
As the Supervisor of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, you will be responsible for the operational, clinical, and administrative oversight of non-cardiac ultrasound services across three hospitals and one off-site location within the health system. This includes general ultrasound, vascular, OB/GYN, breast ultrasound, and procedural assistance (e.g., thyroid biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis).
This role ensures high-quality, standardized imaging and procedural support services while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The Supervisor provides leadership in staffing, workflow optimization, quality assurance, and staff development, and serves as a key liaison between sonographers, radiologists, proceduralists, and system leadership.
Echocardiography services are excluded from this role and are managed separately.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operations: Direct day-to-day ultrasound services across three hospitals and one off-site location (excluding echocardiography); coordinate scheduling, staffing coverage, and workflow to ensure efficient patient throughput, timely exam completion, and procedural support (thyroid biopsy, paracentesis, thoracentesis)
- Staffing: Supervise and allocate technologists across specialties (general, vascular, OB/GYN, breast, procedural assistance); lead recruitment, onboarding, cross-training, performance management, and retention efforts to maintain a competent, flexible workforce
- Accreditation & Compliance: Ensure ongoing compliance with American College of Radiology (ACR) and Inter societal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards; maintain audit readiness, oversee documentation, and enforce adherence to safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements
- Standardization: Develop and sustain standardized imaging and documentation protocols across all sites, including breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures; partner with radiologists and proceduralists to align practices with current clinical standards
- Quality & Performance Improvement: Lead quality assurance initiatives, including image and documentation review, procedural workflow evaluation, and equipment quality control; monitor key metrics and implement corrective actions to improve quality, safety, and efficiency
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship; support professional development, competency validation, and succession planning while fostering a collaborative, accountable culture
- Financial & Strategic Support: Assist with budget oversight, staffing models, and resource allocation; contribute to capital planning and strategic growth of ultrasound services, including outpatient access and procedural capabilities
Work Environment:
- Multi-site responsibility requiring regular travel between three campuses
- Combination of administrative duties and clinical oversight
- May require on-call support or flexible hours depending on operational needs.
EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field
- Registered with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and/or equivalent certification
- Required or preferred certifications based on scope:
- Abdomen (AB)
- OB/GYN (OB/GYN/MFM)
- Vascular Technology (RVT)
- Breast (if applicable, or relevant experience strongly preferred)
