Position Summary

The Allergy & Asthma Nurse Practitioner will independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with allergic diseases, asthma, chronic respiratory conditions, and immune-related disorders. The provider will develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based clinical guidelines and modern diagnostic testing.

The ideal candidate is passionate about preventive medicine, chronic disease management, patient education, and improving patients' quality of life.

Primary Responsibilities

The selected provider will independently evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients within the scope of Nevada APRN practice.

Allergy Evaluations

Evaluate and manage patients with:

Seasonal AllergiesEnvironmental AllergiesPerennial Allergic RhinitisAllergic ConjunctivitisChronic SinusitisRecurrent Sinus InfectionsDust Mite AllergyMold AllergyPet AllergyPollen AllergyInsect Sting AllergyLatex Allergy

Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical history, diagnostic testing, and current practice guidelines.

Food Allergy Management

Evaluate and manage patients with:

Peanut AllergyTree Nut AllergyShellfish AllergyMilk AllergyEgg AllergyWheat AllergySoy AllergyFish AllergySesame AllergyMultiple Food AllergiesOral Allergy Syndrome

Provide education regarding allergen avoidance, emergency action plans, and appropriate referrals when indicated.

Asthma Management

Evaluate and treat patients with:

Mild Persistent AsthmaModerate Persistent AsthmaSevere Persistent AsthmaExercise-Induced BronchospasmOccupational AsthmaCough Variant AsthmaPediatric AsthmaAdult Asthma

Responsibilities include:

Development of individualized asthma treatment plansAsthma Action PlansMedication optimizationRescue inhaler managementMaintenance inhaler managementBiologic therapy evaluation (when appropriate)Long-term disease monitoringPatient educationDiagnostic Testing

Perform and interpret diagnostic testing including:

Allergy Skin Prick TestingIntradermal Allergy TestingPatch Testing (if offered)Pulmonary Function Testing (Spirometry)Peak Flow MonitoringFractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO), if availableSerum Allergy TestingImmunoglobulin TestingAdditional diagnostic studies as clinically indicatedImmunotherapy

Evaluate candidates for allergen immunotherapy and provide ongoing management, including:

Allergy Shot (SCIT) evaluationsSublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT), if offeredTreatment planningMonitoring patient responseManaging adverse reactionsAdjusting immunotherapy schedulesLong-term follow-upMedication Management

Prescribe and manage medications including:

AntihistaminesIntranasal corticosteroidsLeukotriene receptor antagonistsBronchodilatorsInhaled corticosteroidsCombination inhalersEpinephrine Auto-InjectorsOral corticosteroids (when clinically appropriate)Biologic therapies (when appropriate and within scope)Other evidence-based allergy and asthma treatments

Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence while ensuring safe prescribing practices.

Chronic Respiratory Conditions

Evaluate and manage patients with:

Chronic CoughChronic RhinitisNon-Allergic RhinitisChronic Urticaria (Hives)AngioedemaEczema (Atopic Dermatitis)Allergic Contact DermatitisRecurrent Respiratory InfectionsEosinophilic Disorders (when appropriate)

Coordinate care with pulmonology, dermatology, ENT, and other specialists as needed.

Patient Education

Educate patients and families regarding:

Allergy avoidance strategiesEnvironmental control measuresMedication adherenceProper inhaler techniqueNebulizer useAsthma Action PlansRecognition of severe allergic reactionsUse of epinephrine auto-injectorsPrevention of asthma exacerbationsLifestyle modifications to reduce allergy triggersDocumentationMaintain timely and accurate Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentationComplete detailed allergy and asthma treatment plansEnsure compliance with organizational, state, federal, and payer documentation requirementsUtilize evidence-based clinical protocols and guidelinesQualificationsRequiredActive Nevada APRN LicenseNational Board Certification (FNP, AGNP, Adult NP, or Adult-Gerontology NP)Current DEA Registration or eligibility to obtainCurrent BLS CertificationStrong clinical assessment and diagnostic skillsExcellent communication and patient education abilitiesProficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)PreferredExperience in Allergy & ImmunologyExperience in Asthma ManagementExperience performing or interpreting allergy testingExperience managing immunotherapy patientsExperience interpreting spirometry and pulmonary function testingFamiliarity with AAAAI and ACAAI clinical practice guidelinesExperience with biologic therapies for asthma and allergic diseasesBilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
