STATEMENT OF THE JOB

  • The Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and performance of the organization’s technology infrastructure and enterprise systems. This position manages servers, cloud platforms, network systems, cybersecurity tools, endpoint management, user access controls, and business-critical applications to ensure reliable and secure operations across the organization.
  • The Systems Administrator serves as the primary technical lead for infrastructure and security operations while supporting a growing 24/7 operational environment. This role partners with leadership, vendors, managed service providers (MSP), and internal departments to maintain stable, scalable, and secure technology systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

  • Administer and maintain organizational servers, cloud environments, and core technology systems.
  • Manage Microsoft 365, Azure AD, JumpCloud, endpoint management systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot:
  • servers
  • workstations
  • network devices
  • wireless systems
  • VPN connectivity
  • VoIP systems
  • backup systems
  • Perform system upgrades, patch management, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Monitor system performance, uptime, and resource utilization.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Maintain and enforce cybersecurity policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Administer endpoint protection, MFA, access controls, and security monitoring systems.
  • Investigate and respond to security alerts, incidents, and vulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate cybersecurity initiatives with external vendors and MSP partners.
  • Support compliance requirements related to:
  • HIPAA
  • data privacy
  • confidentiality
  • organizational security standards
  • Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.

Identity & Access Management

  • Manage user provisioning, deprovisioning, permissions, and authentication systems.
  • Maintain role-based access controls and least-privilege security practices.
  • Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Administer directory services and identity platforms such as:
  • JumpCloud
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft Entra/Azure AD

Network & Application Support

  • Support network infrastructure including:
  • switches
  • firewalls
  • wireless access points
  • internet connectivity
  • remote access systems
  • Maintain and support organizational applications and SaaS platforms.
  • Coordinate with vendors for troubleshooting and system maintenance.
  • Assist with implementation of new technologies and systems.

Operational Support & Escalation

  • Serve as escalation point for complex technical issues unresolved by frontline IT support staff.
  • Participate in rotating on-call support and after-hours incident response.
  • Support 24/7 operational technology requirements.
  • Coordinate critical outage response and recovery efforts.

Documentation & Project Management

  • Maintain accurate documentation of:
  • systems
  • configurations
  • network diagrams
  • security procedures
  • disaster recovery plans
  • inventory records
  • Assist with IT planning, budgeting, and technology projects.
  • Recommend improvements to infrastructure, security, and operational efficiency.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of systems administration or infrastructure support experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting:
  • Microsoft 365
  • Windows Server environments
  • cloud platforms
  • endpoint management
  • networking infrastructure required
  • Experience with JumpCloud or identity management platforms preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 operational environments preferred.

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Microsoft 365 Certified Administrator
  • CISSP (preferred for senior-level candidates)
  • VMware or virtualization certifications
  • ITIL Foundation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel between organizational sites as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations when required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Office and operational support environment.
  • Hybrid onsite and remote support responsibilities.
  • Participation in rotating on-call coverage required.
  • May require after-hours maintenance and emergency response support.
