JOB SUMMARY

Reports to the Director, Patient Care Services. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs paramedic procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the National EMS Education standard. Provides a safe and clean environment for patient care. Assists with both internal and external patient transport.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
-
The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Indiana State EMS-approved Paramedic course and the achievement and maintenance of Indiana Paramedic Certification. One year of previous experience as a Paramedic is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills
-
Requires current competence in CPR, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, and PHTLS or ITLS and other required skills with meticulous adherence to sterile techniques and universal precautions.

Requires completion of a medication administration learning module and competency validation within four weeks of Emergency Care Center start date.

Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, families, and other staff members.

Demonstrates effective guest relations behaviors.

Demonstrates effective communication skills (both verbal and written).

Demonstrates organization skills and the ability to work independently, set priorities and accomplish goals.

Working Conditions

Works in a patient care environment that requires physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities,s and exposure to biohazards.

Operates patient-related equipment.

Physical Demands
-
Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted; over 35 pounds requires assistance; provide CPR; visual acuity to observe patient, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
