  • Reports to the Director, Patient Care Services. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs paramedic procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the National EMS Education standard. Provides a safe and clean environment for patient care. Assists with both internal and external patient transport.

• JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience

    • The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Indiana State EMS-approved Paramedic course and the achievement and maintenance of Indiana Paramedic Certification. One year of previous experience as a Paramedic is preferred.

  • Knowledge & Skills

    • Requires current competence in CPR, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, and PHTLS or ITLS and other required skills with meticulous adherence to sterile techniques and universal precautions.

    • Requires completion of a medication administration learning module and competency validation within four weeks of Emergency Care Center start date.

    • Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, families, and other staff members.

    • Demonstrates effective guest relations behaviors.

    • Demonstrates effective communication skills (both verbal and written).

    • Demonstrates organization skills and the ability to work independently, set priorities and accomplish goals.

  • Working Conditions

    • Works in a patient care environment that requires physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities,s and exposure to biohazards.

    • Operates patient-related equipment.

  • Physical Demands

    • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted; over 35 pounds requires assistance; provide CPR; visual acuity to observe patient, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
