ICMS is looking for a Wastewater System Superintendent to join our team onsite for a contract in Beltsville, Maryland. Successful candidates will manage the daily wastewater plant operations, ensure compliance with state/ federal environmental permits and oversee staff. This position requires detailed knowledge of and the ability to operate a large wastewater system, deep understanding of MDE rules, testing protocols, and safety compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Plant Operations: Directs daily activities at the wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and sewer collection systems.

· Regulatory Compliance: Acts as the "person in responsible charge" to ensure treated water meets Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and EPA standards.

· Reporting: Prepares and submits Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs) and other regulatory paperwork.

· Data Analysis: Reviews biological, chemical, and physical lab data to adjust treatment processes.

· Program Management: Oversees specialized initiatives like the Biosolids Program and Industrial Pretreatment Ordinances.

· Staff Management: Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate operators and technicians.

· Budget and Planning: Monitors operating budgets and coordinates infrastructure upgrades with contractors.

· Possess analytical skills necessary to recognize, diagnose, and, within limits, repair equipment and system malfunctions.

· Understand verbal and written instructions and to give readily understood information in both verbal and written forms

· Demonstrate equipment mastery within a 90-day period.

Required Qualifications:

· High School Diploma, bachelor’s or associate degree in biology, environment science, chemistry or related field strongly preferred.

· Familiarity with MDE rules, testing protocols, and safety compliance

· Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed MDE superintendent, with three (3) years managing advanced treatment systems.

· Must hold a MD Class 5A or Class 5W Wastewater Treatment Superintendent’s License.

· Ability to manage staffing, scheduling, on-call and after-hours coverage; capable of working multiple shifts

· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• A valid state’s driver's license (with no major infractions) is required
• Maryland Class 5A or 5W License
• OSHA 30 Training

Security Clearance:

All contractor personnel must attain and maintain a USDA LincPass and pass a background check; personnel must be U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents.

Job Type: Non-Exempt, Full-Time Onsite Position (Telecommute not considered for this position)

Work schedules are subject to change based on client and company needs. As a management position, this person will be on call regularly and be available for and respond to emergencies off shift.

Hourly Pay Rate: $32.51 per hour
