About This Position
JOB SUMMARY
The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists by processing prescriptions, maintaining patient profiles, preparing medication orders, ordering medications, maintaining inventory and providing support services to assure that the pharmacy department is in compliance with all relevant state and federal rules and regulations. This position operates under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist at all times and directly reports to the Pharmacy Manager. The Retail Pharmacy Technician must be committed to providing excellent customer service, demonstrate a positive attitude, show compassion and care and be comfortable interacting with patients and providers.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Provides excellent customer service and has the ability to handle calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
- Operates register POS system, patient transactions collect and handle cash as required.
- Maintaining inventory maintenance functions in pharmacy and as prescribed by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Trouble shoots supply problems with wholesaler or other suppliers.
- Ability to manage inventory including daily ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals.
- Restocks the retail pharmacy areas each shift and maintains pharmacy work areas.
- Ability to follow instruction and support Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacists at all times.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- WA State Pharmacy Technician License
- Certified Pharmacy Technicians (CPHT) preferred.
Training and Experience
- Retail experience with excellent communication skills.
- Insurance experience, prior authorizations and billing.
- Proficient knowledge of prescription insurance plans, experience handling rejected claims and prior authorizations.
- Experience in pharmacy computer system data entry, ability to process new prescription orders, refill authorizations, ensuring information is entered correctly and accurately.
- Understanding of applicable Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), professional standards, and ethical principles.
- Compliance with pharmacy department policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, and protect patient privacy and security.
