We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Operator to join our 2nd shift manufacturing team in beautiful Grand Haven! Our CNC operators are responsible for operating CNC Lathes, performing a series of operations such as turning, boring, threading and facing on metal work pieces such as bar stock. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, mechanical knowledge, and proficiency with various machining and fabrication tools. Immediate opening for 2nd Shift CNC Lathe Operator. This 2nd shift position works Monday-Thursday, 10-hour shifts with every Friday off! We are also air conditioned in the summer!

Job Summary

  • Reads blueprint, travelers, standard charts, and CNC programs for such specifications as dimensions and tolerances.
  • Positions and secures work piece in chuck or to faceplate, as well as positions bar stock in bar feeder.
  • Indexes turret and adjusts positions of tools at each station in relation to work piece to assure clearance between moving parts and machining of specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Observes operation and indexes turret between operations. Reports any non-compliance to CNC set-up operator, supervisor, or plant manager.
  • Verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications.
  • Turns valve and directs flow of coolant against tool and workpiece.
  • Performs offsets per tool locations, knowing the difference between .001 and .0001 increments.
  • Monitors CNC operation and guides Turret between operations.
  • Verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications.
  • Computes such data as dimensions and machining times.
  • Completes first piece and quality inspections as required for each work piece.
  • Removes metal chips and shavings from surfaces of machines. Maintains clean work area.
Requirements:
  • CNC and/or machining experience is required.
  • Technical knowledge and ability to read blueprints and learn coding of machines.
  • Ability to complete first-piece and quality inspections as required for each part, and record information using measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Mathematical skills: ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of verbal, written, diagram and schedule instructions.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees and levels of management when needed.
  • May be required to obtain a power industrial truck license.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing setting.
  • Works near moving mechanical parts on a regular basis.
  • Moderate noise levels.
  • Fast paced.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Bending/stooping.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess good close and peripheral vision as well as depth perception.
  • Continuous use of hands and fingers to feed work pieces into CNC machines.
