Job Description

KLR CFO Advisory + Outsourcing, an affiliate of KLR, one of the nation’s largest CPA firms, delivers outsourced finance and advisory solutions to businesses across New England. Our team partners with clients to provide financial and management reporting, strengthen internal controls, design effective organizational structures, and support strategic decision-making.

Backed by experienced financial professionals and the broader resources of KLR, we help organizations enhance operational efficiency, improve financial visibility, and position themselves for sustainable growth.

We are seeking a Consultant to join our CFO Advisory & Outsourcing practice. This role offers the opportunity to support clients in a consulting capacity across a range of interim and project-based engagements, while contributing to a practice that continues to expand across the New England market.

Responsibilities:

Client Accounting & Financial Management
  • Manage all day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of clients, serving as their primary finance resource across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Execute month-end close processes, including journal entries (prepaids, accruals, depreciation/amortization, equity, and stock options) and account reconciliations across bank, credit card, balance sheet, and P&L accounts.
  • Prepare and deliver timely monthly financial packages with emphasis on balance sheet integrity, income statement review, and management or board reporting.
  • Manage client cash flow, bill payments, and treasury functions as required by each engagement.
  • Work with clients to develop annual budgets and maintain rolling forecasts, including cash flow analysis, in collaboration with the CFO Advisor assigned to each account.

Client Service & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for client stakeholders, delivering financial insights and operational guidance that support informed decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with client vendors, external CPAs, banking partners, and other advisors, acting as a representative of KLR’s commitment to quality and professionalism.
  • Assist clients with regulatory filings, state business registrations, and compliance matters, coordinating with tax and outside advisory teams as appropriate.
  • Travel to client sites as needed to support onboarding, transitions, or ongoing engagement requirements.

Team Leadership & Practice Development

  • Oversee and mentor staff accountants and cloud accounting team members, including onshore and offshore resources, across assigned client engagements.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve client processes, recommend technology solutions, and implement enhancements that increase efficiency and value delivery.
  • Stay current on accounting standards, technology platforms, and best practices relevant to the clients and industries we serve.

  • Experience managing multiple client relationships or priorities in a professional services or client-facing environment
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; experience with additional accounting or ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite) preferred
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and payroll systems preferred
  • CPA license or active pursuit of CPA certification highly preferred
  • Prior experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, or consulting environments highly preferred
  • Exposure to both in-house corporate accounting and client-facing roles is a plus
