Job Description

Position Summary
The position will provide recovery support services, education and encouragement to clients seeking recovery support services. The recovery support specialist will travel locally to different service sites. This position will entail other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
• Comply with HRC Work Culture Building Blocks and follow HRC Code of Conduct.
• Keep Client Care a top priority during client stay in the facility to include providing compassion, empathy and respect.
• Must be in self-directed recovery and willing to share experience as appropriate, if applicable to position.
• Effectively support client engagement and progress in recovery.
• Stay in compliance with documentation standards and ethical guidelines.
• Participate in ongoing training and supervision.
• Provide positive support to all clients during intake, admission, and throughout their stay including discharge
• Monitoring clients at all times while using the language of hope a motivate a client toward change and intervention during intake, admission and discharge.
• Provides up to 18 months of education, support and encouragement to clients seeking recovery support services.
• Travel locally to different service sites to provide recovery support services to clients including Harris County Jail.
• Responsible of client transportation utilizing authorized vehicles only
• Abide to agency transportation policies
• Abide to all the duties and responsibilities of a recovery support specialist according to state regulations
• Maintain up to date electronic weekly documentation, charting and reports
• Must ensure client safety, confidentiality, privacy at all times
• Assist in providing support to all clients in the sobering center during intake, admission throughout their stay and discharge
• Help in the development of connections in the community and provide only approved referrals as needed
• Works alongside other agency team members to provide the best client care
• Provide weekly follow-up visits to clients in person or by telephone as a continuum of care
• Focus on a person’s strengths and support the overall health and wellness of a client
• Able to represent the agency by reflecting the upmost professional conduct at all times
• Attend all meetings and trainings as requested
• Support client’s decision for treatment and services
• Provide follow-up telephone calls as a continuum of care
• Maintain and submit timely all required documentation of charts associated with RSS responsibilities to including chart audits, census reports and follow up calls.
• Maintain positive communication with all employees in the sobering center and intake department.
• Represent center reflecting a professional image
• Inspect vans to ensure safety and sanitation regulations prior shift.
• Adapt to changing work requirements along with flexibility of time
• Adhere to HRC policy and procedures as well as other organizations while visiting clients
• Report any client’s concerns or grievances to supervisor immediately

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
• High School Diploma or GED
• 46 Hours of Recovery Support Specialist Training
• Certified as Recovery Support Peer Specialist
• Must be two years in personal recovery
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Must be able to pass Background check
• Extensive knowledge of community agencies and their services
• Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change and Mental health Awareness
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Demands:
• Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer or engaging in client documentation
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday, including during community outreach or group facilitation
• Occasional reaching, bending, stopping or lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Work may occur in office, clinical, or community settings

Work Environment:
• Office environment with standard lighting and temperature
• Community environments including client homes, shelters, or partner agencies
• May involve exposure to individuals experiencing crisis or behavioral health challenges
• Regular interaction with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external providers
