Essential Functions of the Job

Job Title: Triage Nurse

Department: Clinical

Reports To: Clinical Manager

SUMMARY

The Triage Nurse serves as the primary triage resource for the organization. This role is responsible for overseeing patient care services in the absence of the Clinical Services Supervisor and ensuring patient and employee safety. The Triage Nurse also acts as a patient liaison, assisting patients and families with questions or concerns related to quality of care, staff interactions, access to services, and general guidance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  1. Triage & Patient Care
  • Perform telephone triage and assist walk-in patients as needed.
  • Maintain the triage training manual.
  • Help develop and implement telephone triage policies and procedures.
  • Help clinical staff with patient calls and ensure patients are getting called back in a timely manner.
  • Administer intramuscular (IM) injections as ordered by providers.
  • Perform all essential duties outlined in the SOOI Medical Assistant job description
  1. Patient Advocacy & Liaison Responsibilities
  • Serve as a patient liaison, providing support, advocacy, and assistance in resolving questions or concerns in the absence of the clinical manager.
  • Assist patients and families with issues related to quality of care, staff interactions, and access to services.
  1. Safety, Compliance & OSHA Responsibilities
  • Serve on the organization’s Safety Committee.
  • Serve on the organization’s Safety Committee.
  • Assist supervisor and staff regarding OSHA requirements and maintain all OSHA compliance files.
  • Conduct OSHA training for all new staff at direction of clinical supervisor.
  • Promote and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  1. Staff Education & Interdepartmental Collaboration
  • Assist with education, training, and onboarding needs for clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to develop new procedures and resolve interdepartmental concerns.
  • Use effective interpersonal skills to build and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
  1. Professional Development & Additional Responsibilities
  • Continue expanding job-related knowledge and skills to support performance and adaptability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager or COO.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

A. EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE

  • Current Oregon Nursing License (LPN)
  • Strong general nursing skills and excellent triage abilities.
  • Ability to manage patient care, pharmaceutical usage, and support clinical staff.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and patient-centered care.
  • Orthopedic and EPIC experience a plus.

B. CLINICAL SKILLS

  • Strong general nursing skills required.
  • Must be able to manage patient care and pharmaceutical usage effectively.
  • Excellent triage skills essential.
  • Ability to support and train clinical staff
