What You’ll Do

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will report to the Pharmacy Supervisor. You will be under the clinical supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and legal and regulatory requirements, compounds sterile products and prepares unit-of-use pharmaceuticals for dispensing and ensures delivery of products and pharmaceutical supplies to patient care areas. You will also maintain pharmacy working inventory.

Certified Pharmacy Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Calculate, select, and compound sterile pharmaceutical preparations under pharmacist supervision using aseptic technique.
  • Package bulk products into unit-of-use formats and replenish medications in kits, trays, carts, and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Maintain stock levels, check for outdated products, and manage inventory including receiving, recording, and distributing medications.
  • Generate reports, pick lists, labels, and enter data into pharmacy systems; support pharmacists with patient care information.
  • Perform quality monitoring, inspections, and routine cleaning per USP 797 and departmental standards.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas, ensuring safe handling and compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain logs, records, and documentation accurately; participate in department meetings and complete mandatory education.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications, BCLS/CPR, and adhere to safety and universal precaution standards.
  • Available to work additional shifts or overtime as required.

What You Bring

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician, you will demonstrate strong communication skills to accurately follow verbal and written instructions, including understanding technical and pharmaceutical terminology. You know how to apply mathematical skills to compute fractions, ratios, percentages, and totals with precision. You exhibit effective interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patients, families, visitors, and staff, fostering positive working relationships. You possess expertise in aseptic technique and the physical dexterity required to handle vials, ampules, needles, syringes, and other intravenous products safely and accurately.

Required Qualifications

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program approved by the State of Indiana.
  • Current certification through the State of Indiana is required.
  • National Technician Certification is preferred.
  • Previous work in a pharmacy, either hospital or retail, is required.
  • The candidate must successfully pass the National Pharmacy Certification exam within 6 months of obtaining the position. Failure to pass the National Pharmacy Technician exam after 3 attempts (the maximum allowed by PTCB) will result in termination from this position.
  • Active licensure through the State of Indiana and certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) must be maintained throughout employment.
