Job Description

Description: Are you a creative and talented Executive Pastry Chef who loves crafting exceptional desserts, artisan breads, pastries, and sweet treats?

Bishop Gadsden, a not-for-profit Life Plan Community recognized as one of Charleston's premier employers, is seeking an experienced Executive Pastry Chef to join our award-winning Culinary Services team.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to showcase your culinary artistry while leading bakery production for multiple dining venues, creating memorable experiences for residents and guests, and contributing to special events throughout our vibrant community.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the daily production and execution of high-quality pastries, desserts, breads, ice creams, and specialty sweets.
  • Plan dessert menus and production schedules for our Café and Winningham Court dining venues.
  • Forecast menu needs based on occupancy, events, seasonal trends, and business demands.
  • Ensure bakery ingredients, equipment, and supplies are adequately stocked and maintained.
  • Uphold exceptional standards for food quality, presentation, portion control, and consistency.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation through visually appealing and delicious dessert offerings.
  • Monitor and enforce sanitation, food safety, nutrition standards, and temperature controls.
  • Collaborate closely with culinary team members to ensure seamless dessert preparation and presentation.
  • Support special events by assisting with dessert plating, setup, and replenishment as needed.
  • Promote a positive, team-focused work environment across all culinary and operational departments.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility when ordering supplies and managing resources.
  • Participate in ongoing training, departmental meetings, and educational opportunities.
Requirements:

What We're Looking For:

  • Degree or certification from an accredited post-secondary Culinary Arts or Pastry Arts program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a high-volume food service, hospitality, restaurant, hotel, or catering environment.
  • Strong pastry, baking, decorating, and dessert production skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and kitchen operations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
