Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Loan Officer Assistant / Junior Loan Officer to join our mortgage team in New Bern, NC. This is a full-time, in-person position for someone with hands-on experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, underwriting, or loan origination.

This role is ideal for an experienced Loan Officer Assistant, Processor, Underwriter, or lending professional who understands the mortgage process and is ready to take on greater responsibility. The position will work closely with the Loan Officer from application through closing, with a strong focus on loan structure, file preparation, underwriting requirements, problem-solving, and overall loan coordination.

For the right candidate, this role can provide a path toward becoming a Junior Loan Officer and eventually a fully independent Loan Officer.

Compensation:

$55,000


Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Loan Officer with the origination, structuring, and coordination of residential and commercial mortgage loans

  • Review loan files for completeness, accuracy, and potential issues before submission

  • Understand and anticipate underwriting requirements and documentation needs

  • Assist with evaluating income, assets, credit, liabilities, and other loan qualification factors

  • Review AUS findings and help identify conditions or potential underwriting concerns

  • Communicate with processors, underwriters, lenders, borrowers, and other parties to keep loans moving

  • Help troubleshoot issues and develop solutions when a loan encounters challenges

  • Assist with product and guideline research and help identify appropriate loan programs

  • Monitor multiple loans simultaneously while managing changing priorities and deadlines

  • Maintain accurate loan information within mortgage operating systems and other technology platforms

  • Assist with disclosures, lock requests, registrations, conditions, and other loan-related tasks

  • Prepare files for processing, underwriting, approval, closing, and final completion

  • Help ensure the Loan Officer has the information and documentation needed to make timely decisions

  • Provide exceptional communication and follow-up throughout the loan process

  • Take increasing ownership of loans and responsibilities as experience and knowledge develop


Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in mortgage lending, loan processing, underwriting, or loan origination

  • Solid understanding of the residential mortgage loan process from application through closing

  • Working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and loan documentation

  • Ability to understand loan structure and identify potential issues early

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through

  • Ability to manage multiple loans, priorities, and constantly changing deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate an issue

  • Strong computer skills and an aptitude for learning new technology

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams

  • Experience with mortgage loan operating systems, AUS platforms, lender portals, and other lending technology

  • Professional, dependable, organized, and team-oriented
