The Real Estate Development Paralegal will support the legal aspects of our real estate development for renewable energy projects. You will assist with tasks ranging from land acquisition and due diligence to drafting various legal documents, principally leases, easements and options. You will be a key part of ensuring our projects move forward smoothly and compliantly.

Please note: this is an fully onsite role with reasonable flexibility in our Downtown Pittsburgh office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct real estate due diligence for potential development sites, including title review, zoning analysis, and easement research.
  • Draft and review real estate transaction documents, such as purchase agreements, leases, easements, and construction agreements.
  • Review and draft legal contracts, and review and analyze title policies, surveys, etc.
  • Administer landowner and real estate matters for operational and development stage projects, while acting as main point of contact for landowners under contract.
  • Partner with accounting team to ensure timely payments are made for leases and taxes.
  • Establish relationships with local title companies to deliver preliminary title searches on properties ready to sign full leases.
  • Assist with negotiations with landowners, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on complex real estate issues.
  • Manage closing documents and prepare for project closings.
  • Research and stay up to date on renewable energy regulations and legal developments impacting real estate transactions.
  • Maintain detailed records and organize project files.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or related field, with training in contracts/legal, compliance or project management.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in real estate law, preferably with a focus on real estate and/or land development and preferably with law firm experience.
  • Paralegal certification strongly preferred.
  • Renewable energy background a plus but not required.
  • Be able to work independently along with collaboratively across different departments and teams.
  • Strong understanding of real estate transaction documents and procedures.
