Job Description
The Academic and Career Advisor reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic Advising in the Center for Academic Advising and Career Development in the Division of Student Affairs. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month position.
Advise, schedule courses, and provide career advising for undergraduate students with less than 60 credit hours. The position will carry an advising load consistent with the needs of the advising center and the student population being served.
Maintain consistent tracking and outreach to non-returning and unregistered students each term.
Interpret University policies and regulations.
Actively participate in a variety of student success programs.
Assist in monitoring, updating, and developing new content for the website.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Assist in developing, maintaining, monitoring, and responding to reports and student success initiatives to show the effectiveness of the students served in an academic advising capacity within the advising center.
Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Academic Advising to develop, maintain, and monitor assessment plans.
Collaborate with the staff in the Center for Academic Advising and Career Development to ensure an integrated approach to career counseling/coaching along with academic advising for students.
Possess and convey a positive and motivational attitude.
Lead by example and maintain the Division’s collaborative culture and work ethic by providing a caring and supportive environment.
Represent the Assistant Dean for Academic Advising as needed.
Serve on University committees as needed.
Minimum
Bachelor's degree is required.
Experience using office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, email systems, data entry tools)
Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Ability to maintain confidential information and records.
Preferred
Master's Degree is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency with relevant technology.
Evidence of customer service skills.
Experience in higher education environment.
Ability to explain financial aid policies and regulations.
Ability to interpret University policies and regulations.
Experience in career advising or coaching.
Ability to analyze data and work on assessment plans.
