This executive-level role offers the opportunity to lead a premier estate planning practice focused on ultra-high-net-worth families with complex, multi-generational wealth.
The position serves as the highest technical authority for sophisticated estate planning strategies, combining deep legal expertise with strategic leadership.
You will build and mentor a high-performing team while shaping the standards, processes, and vision of an elite advisory practice.
Working closely with wealth advisors, tax professionals, and external advisors, you will design integrated solutions that address clients’ most complex financial needs.
The role provides significant influence over client outcomes, practice growth, and industry thought leadership initiatives.

Accountabilities:

The Managing Partner, Estate Planning – UHNW will be responsible for leading the strategic direction, technical excellence, and continued growth of a sophisticated estate planning practice serving ultra-high-net-worth families. This role combines hands-on client advisory work with team leadership, practice development, and industry representation.

  • Lead and expand the estate planning practice by establishing technical standards, planning methodologies, and quality expectations.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a team of highly skilled estate planning professionals while fostering continuous learning and professional excellence.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for complex estate planning matters, personally advising on high-value and high-complexity client situations.
  • Design and implement advanced wealth transfer strategies tailored to multi-generational family needs, business interests, and complex asset structures.
  • Partner with wealth advisors, tax professionals, and leadership teams to integrate estate planning strategies into comprehensive financial plans.
  • Manage relationships with select ultra-high-net-worth families, including clients with significant and complex balance sheets.
  • Collaborate with external advisors such as attorneys, CPAs, trustees, and family office consultants to ensure coordinated planning outcomes.
  • Represent the practice through prospective client engagement, conferences, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Support long-term practice development through talent strategy, operational improvements, and enhanced client service capabilities.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an accomplished estate planning attorney and strategic leader with extensive experience advising ultra-high-net-worth clients. The role requires exceptional technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively within a collaborative wealth management environment.

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school; LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning strongly preferred.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • 20+ years of estate planning legal experience, with significant experience advising clients with $50M+ and $100M+ balance sheets.
  • Proven success leading high-performing estate planning teams within a wealth management firm, family office, private wealth platform, or leading legal environment.
  • Deep expertise in federal transfer tax law, trust and estate administration, and advanced wealth transfer planning strategies.
  • Strong experience designing sophisticated multi-generational estate plans involving complex assets, entities, jurisdictions, and family dynamics.
  • Experience advising on business succession planning, liquidity events, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, ESOP transactions, and closely held business interests.
  • Background with a nationally recognized law firm, estate planning boutique, multi-family office, or comparable private wealth organization.
  • ACTEC Fellowship and AV Preeminent® rating are preferred.
  • Ability to build credibility with sophisticated clients and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, leadership, relationship management, and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%.
