Position Summary The University of New Mexico (Albuquerque)invites applications for a Lecturer II or III position in LiberalArts and Integrative Studies specializing in health professions/health science. The Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies Program (LAIS)and Office of Pre-Health Professions Student Development, both located inUniversity College, strive to connect humanistic inquiry with health educationto benefit students. We seek qualified applicants who can synthesize healthcareeducation with humanities (and/or interdisciplinary studies) to ensure studentsdevelop the clinical and humanistic skills needed to succeed.
The Liberal Arts and Integrative Studies Program (LAIS) isan interdisciplinary academic program that enables students to customize theirmajor by combining two or more distinct fields of studyincludingmultidisciplinary knowledge, theories, data, and methodsinto a focused programof study, or to pursue one of LAISs growing concentrations, such as Pre-Law,National Security and Strategic Analysis, or Pre-Health Professions. Regardlessof their path, LAIS students develop the ability to make meaningful connectionsacross diverse areas of knowledge. Supporting this interdisciplinary mission,the Office of Pre-Health Professions Student Development helps studentsinterested in health professions explore career options and understand theacademic and non-academic requirements for admission to professional programs,emphasizing the importance of early preparation for a successful applicationand career after college. Together, LAIS and the Office contribute toUniversity Colleges mission to provide collaborative opportunities forintegrative learning that foster personal, academic, and professionalexcellence through academically rich undergraduate programs that crossdepartmental and college boundaries, while University College also supportsincoming students and provides an administrative structure for importantinterdisciplinary programs.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
1. An advanced degree (Masters level or higher)
2. Experience working across disciplines and across disciplines and units (preferably in health
sciences/STEM related fields)
3. Two or more years of teaching interdisciplinary or humanities courses with an emphasis on
pre-health profession fields
4. Two or more years of administrative experience and leadership skills (for example, in
managing social media platforms; program management, strategic initiative oversight,
and/or multi-project governance)
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Terminal degree (e.g. PhD/MFA/JD/DBA/EdD), awarded by August 1, 2027
2. Demonstrated engagement in student academic advising and professional mentoring
3. Experience in program review and assessment
4. Experience in community outreach, including via social media
5. Experience teaching interdisciplinary or humanities courses with an emphasis on pre-health
profession fields such as health communication, biology for health majors,
population/public health
6. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico
and to the success of the universitys mission to serve local and global communities.
