The Engineering Department at SUNY Maritime College invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. This is a 10-month academic-year appointment and may be eligible for either a non-tenure-track Lecturer or tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment, depending on the candidate's qualifications. SUNY Maritime College's Electrical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and has a strong focus on electrical power engineering. The program prepares students to design, service, and operate electrical and electrical power systems, with applications in maritime, transportation-; energy, and industrial environments. Students receive a strong foundation in electrical engineering theory together with extensive hands-on laboratory and practical experience. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in electrical engineering and particularly encourage candidates with experience in electrical power engineering to apply.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach and develop undergraduate courses in electrical engineering, with particular emphasis on electrical power engineering, including areas such as electrical power systems, electric machines, renewable energy, signals and systems, etc.
• Teach and develop hands-on electrical engineering laboratory courses using contemporary equipment, instrumentation, simulation, and analysis tools.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students and support their academic, professional, and career development. Participate in projects design, undergraduate research, internship, and other student-learning activities.
• Establish and maintain relationships with industry, maritime organizations, professional societies, and SUNY System to enhance student learning and professional opportunities.
• Conduct research, applied research, or scholarly/professional activities appropriate to the candidate1s appointment
• Participate in ABET assessment and continuous improvement activities.
• Contribute to departmental and college service, including committee work, student recruitment, outreach, and other activities supporting the Electrical Engineering Program.
• Contribute to a just, inclusive, and supportive educational environment that enables students from diverse backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should possess most, if not all, of the following qualifications:

• An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to teach and develop undergraduate electrical engineering courses.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to teach laboratory-based and hands-on engineering courses.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to advise and mentor undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct research, applied research, or professional engineering activities.
• A commitment to departmental and college service.
• A commitment to student recruitment, outreach, and engagement with the engineering and maritime communities.

For appointment at the Assistant Professor level, a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required, or there must be a reasonable expectation of timely completion of the Ph.D.

Highly qualified candidates may be considered for a non-tenure-track Lecturer appointment. Candidates with a master's degree, professional engineering licensure, or significant relevant industrial experience are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise or professional experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Electrical Power Engineering and Power Systems
• Renewable Energy and Energy Storage
• Electric Machines and Drives
• Signals and Systems
• Maritime, transportation, or industrial electrical applications

Experience with hands-on engineering education, undergraduate research, industry collaboration, or professional engineering practice is highly desirable.

Additional Information:

Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant or Associate Professor position is a tenure-track, academic year appointment United University Professions (UUP) position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $85,000 - $100,000 annually. Appointments will be for a fixed term of one or two years, with one-to three-year extensions possible by mutual consent. Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with the contract between the State University of New York and United University Professionals, and includes an outstanding benefits package.
