Primary Function

Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and hydraulic equipment within assigned areas and throughout the plant facility.

Basic Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain heavy facility equipment, including rolling mill machinery, furnace mechanical systems, mechanical shears, and annealing equipment.
• Assemble, dismantle, align, and adjust mechanical and hydraulic machinery, including conveyors, mill stands, mill housings, and pumps.
• Perform mechanical pipe fitting, boiler repair, and general plant maintenance.
• Perform basic welding, torch cutting, and burning as needed for repairs and modifications.
• Read, interpret, and work directly from blueprints, technical sketches, and hydraulic/mechanical schematics.
• Safely operate overhead pendant cranes and fork trucks to transport tools, supplies, and heavy machinery components.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with facility safety standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.

Position Details & Supervision

• Supervision: Works independently with minimal supervision; reports directly to the Supervisor of Maintenance.
• Work Environment: Industrial manufacturing facility. Candidates must be comfortable working in environments that require working at heights, in confined spaces, or in extreme temperatures (hot/cold) while wearing required PPE.

Tools and Equipment Used

• Drill press, power saw, portable drills, grinders, bench tools, cutting torch, welding and burning equipment, overhead pendant cranes, chain blocks/falls, air hoists, pipe wrenches, crowbars, sledges, pressure and flow gauges, hydraulic fitting die press, and miscellaneous hand tools.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Credentials:

• Associate degree (A.S.) from a trade school in mechanical or electrical disciplines preferred.
• Journeyman certification/papers preferred.
• Must successfully pass the Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude Test (RR110) and the Ramsey Mechanical Test (RR16-A).

Experience & Key Technical Skills:

• Work Experience: 3–5 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience in a steel mill, heavy industrial, or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Environmental Comfort: Must be comfortable working in an environment that requires working at heights, in confined spaces, or in extreme temperatures (hot/cold) while wearing required PPE.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong mechanical ability, analytical troubleshooting skills, basic welding/cutting skills, and working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
• Schematic Reading: Proven capability to read and interpret mechanical and fluid power schematics
