Job Title: Human Resources Advisor
Location: Calgary, AB
Reports to: Human Resources Director
Position Overview
The Human Resources Advisor provides day-to-day HR support to designated operational client groups. This role partners with managers to support employee relations, performance management, policy application, and internal workforce development initiatives. The HR Advisor escalates complex or high-risk matters to the HR Director and operates under structured mentorship and oversight. This position represents a developmental step from HR Generalist to Advisor and is focused on strengthening internal talent practices within supported client groups.
Key Responsibilities
First-Level HR Advisory Support
Provide day-to-day HR guidance to managers and employees on policy interpretation and general employment matters.
- Support managers with documentation related to performance management, attendance management, and employee communications.
- Escalate complex employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary decisions, or legal risks to the HR Director.
Workforce Planning & Succession Support
- Partner with managers to support internal succession planning within assigned client groups.
- Assist in identifying development opportunities for high-potential and key technical employees.
- Support career pathing discussions and development planning initiatives.
- Contribute to workforce planning discussions under the guidance of the HR Director.
Role Clarity & Job Documentation
- Partner with managers to develop and update job descriptions to reflect operational requirements and regulatory standards.
- Ensure role expectations, competencies, and reporting structures are clearly defined.
- Collaborate with the HR Coordinator to support recruitment efforts once role requirements are finalized.
Policy Administration & Compliance
- Support policy updates, creation, implementation and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Assist with policy roll-outs and employee communications.
- Maintain accurate employee records in compliance with privacy and regulatory requirements.
- Support compliance with the Canada Labour Code and Company standards under guidance.
- Lead creation and submission of yearly LEEP (Legislated Employment Equity Program) reporting.
Performance & Talent Development Support
- Assist managers in preparing performance documentation.
- Support the annual performance review cycle.
- Provide guidance on documentation standards and performance tracking.
- Encourage proactive employee development conversations within supported teams.
Training & Development
- Monitor and support completion of mandatory compliance training within assigned client groups (e.g., harassment and violence prevention, privacy, security, Controlled Goods, and other regulatory training requirements).
- Facilitate employee and supervisor training sessions as required, including topics such as policy awareness, performance management processes, workplace conduct, and documentation standards.
- Support onboarding training to ensure new employees understand Company policies, expectations, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with the HR Director to develop and deliver internal workshops or learning sessions aligned with operational needs.
- Escalate complex training content or legally sensitive topics to the HR Business Partner Manager for review and approval prior to delivery.
Decision-Making Authority
The HR Advisor provides guidance on routine HR matters. All complex employee relations matters, terminations, formal disciplinary actions, restructuring decisions, or policy exceptions require review and approval by the HR Director.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the HR Director, Arcfield Canada. Receives structured mentorship and development to strengthen advisory capability and business partnership skills. The HR Advisor will act as the main point of Human Resources contact in absence of the HR Director.
