Position Summary |
Under general direction, provides organizational leadership in the development, implementation and maintenance of service consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan of the Mary Greeley Medical Center. Leader understands, supports, communicates, and promotes hospital initiatives. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care and a respectful work environment.

Safety Expectations |
Lead safety efforts by ensuring staff receive timely education and updates on organizational safety goals, evidence-based practices, regulations, and requirements; fostering a culture of trust where staff feel comfortable bringing concerns forward; promptly addressing identified safety concerns and serious safety events through established escalation pathways; completing A3/Root Cause Analyses with timely follow-up and applying fair, consistent accountability when evaluating and addressing events and concerns.

Key Responsibilities |
- Instill a culture of customer service by emphasizing responsiveness, resourcefulness, follow-through, accuracy, timeliness, and accountability.
- Coordinates unit shared decision-making teams; ensures effective utilization of meeting time and that meeting minutes are documented.
- Creates ownership in decision-making processes by collaborating with others to identify problems, develop solutions, and implements and monitors effectiveness of solutions.
- Implements, revises, communicates, and monitor compliance with organizational and pediatric specific policies and clinical guidelines for safe patient care delivery.
- Accountable for attendance, participation and dissemination of information from organization and nursing department meetings.
- Participates in the medical centers’ Quality Improvement plan by gathering and analyzing data associated with continuous improvement of care and services, and monitoring quality control programs.
- Acts as a department resource for unit-specific core competencies.
- Functions in the capacity of staff as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
- Skill in effective oral and written communication in English.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to manage one’s time effectively.
- Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing specific to specialized field of nursing as it relates to scientific principles; nursing research; preparation, administration and actions of medications and medical procedures; and the ability to operate complex equipment; knowledge of counseling and teaching techniques; of basic management theory.
- Ability to provide professional nursing care; establish and maintain a working rapport and relationship with physicians and all members of the healthcare team; problem solve and use critical thinking skills; to communicate both verbally and in writing; use computer.
- Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for appropriate developmental age of population served.

Required Education, Licensure, Certification, Experience |
- Current Iowa license as a Registered Nurse
- Registered Nurse with Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience.
- Professional certification in nursing specialty or nursing leadership within 24 months of hire.
- BLS and Mandatory Reporter training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment.
