The position plays a key role in managing payroll tax setup, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance activities across state and local tax environments.
You will collaborate with internal teams and external payroll partners to resolve tax issues and improve operational processes.
The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex payroll tax requirements independently.

The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for managing payroll tax activities, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while supporting accurate payroll processing and reporting. This role works closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to identify issues, improve processes, and maintain high-quality payroll tax operations.
- Manage the setup, maintenance, and reconciliation of multi-state payroll tax accounts, rates, and jurisdictional requirements.
- Prepare, review, and support payroll tax filings, returns, reports, and related documentation.
- Analyze payroll tax data to ensure accurate calculations, timely payments, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Coordinate with payroll processing partners and internal teams to resolve tax discrepancies and improve processes.
- Maintain accurate records of tax payments, supporting documentation, compliance activities, and audit requirements.
- Monitor jurisdictional inquiries, tax notices, and account requests through successful resolution.
- Perform payroll tax audits and data integrity reviews to identify errors and implement corrective actions.
- Support compliance initiatives, including review of employee tax transfers, Smart Compliance exceptions, and fringe benefit processing.
- Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax deadlines, procedures, policies, and standard operating processes.
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and enhance payroll tax operations.
The ideal candidate has strong payroll tax expertise, experience managing multi-state compliance requirements, and the ability to analyze complex payroll information while working collaboratively across teams.
- 3+ years of payroll, payroll tax, or payroll compliance experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, including state registrations, tax accounts, taxable wages, and amendments.
- Experience managing payroll tax activities across multiple states preferred.
- Understanding of the complete payroll lifecycle and related compliance processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze and reconcile large data sets.
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP Smart Compliance and familiarity with Workday preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and auditing skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and ownership when handling sensitive payroll information.
- Payroll certification such as CPP or FPC preferred.
- Competitive annual salary range of approximately $75,100 - $103,300 depending on experience.
