Job Description
David S. Brown Enterprises is seeking an experienced Controller to join our Accounting team. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will provide leadership and oversight of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Accounting operations across our operating entities.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with strong leadership skills, real estate accounting knowledge, and hands-on Yardi experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting staff, administrative assistants, and bookkeeping functions.
Serve as the Yardi Administrator and primary point of contact, including user and database maintenance, upgrades, new property setups, and new bank setups.
Manage bank administration, including reviewing and approving ACH and wire transactions and monitoring suspicious transactions.
Review monthly financial statements and provide variance analysis for operating entities.
Assist with the review and approval of year-end property packages.
Lead and oversee the operating entities' budgeting process.
Review bank reconciliations and provide accounting-related payroll support.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for A/R, A/P, and company credit card usage.
Oversee inventory controls for major supplies.
Manage and support accounting staff, including performance reviews, employee matters, and recommendations for annual increases.
Review commercial lease abstracts for accuracy.
Review and approve commercial recoveries, including CAM, insurance, real estate taxes, Metro, water, and trash.
Work with legal counsel regarding lease language related to recoveries.
Maintain ACH mortgage schedules and required updates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum 8 years of accounting experience
3–5 years of Real Estate Accounting experience preferred
CPA certification/license required
Yardi experience required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ongoing education in tax and partnership accounting
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
Active CPA license
