Job Description

CDN is a recognized industry leader in the energy services sector. CDN is a full-service provider with expertise in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, renewables/solar, major projects, combustion & emissions reduction, and measurement.

We are seeking a Vice President, Accounting & Finance to join our Calgary office. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role provides leadership for the finance and accounting functions, with accountability for financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and scalable business processes. As a key member of the leadership team, the Vice President will strengthen governance and controls, develop a high-performing team, improve financial processes and systems, and provide insights that support strategic decision-making, growth, and long-term business success.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide enterprise-level leadership and direction by collaborating with executive, senior leaders, and external stakeholders to align operational priorities with organizational strategy and long-term business objectives.
  • Lead the development and execution of functional and cross-functional strategies, policies, and frameworks that drive organizational performance, efficiency, and sustained growth.
  • Oversee accounting operations and financial stewardship of assigned portfolios, including month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, working capital management, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, fiscal accountability, and reporting accuracy.
  • Strengthen accounting governance, internal controls, and compliance processes by establishing clear standards, review routines, reconciliations, approval workflows, and documentation practices across the finance and accounting functions.
  • Lead enterprise analysis of financial results, operational performance, accounting trends, process risks, and emerging opportunities to inform executive decision-making and organizational direction, including adoption of new capabilities, processes, systems, or technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement across accounting and finance processes, including close cycle efficiency, reporting automation, ERP and system enhancements, data quality, standardized procedures, and scalable workflows that support growth and operational excellence.
  • Mentor, and develop high-performing finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, process ownership, collaboration, and timely execution.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including 7+ years in a people leadership role.
  • Experience leading audits, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance programs.
  • Experience within industrial services, energy services, construction, manufacturing, engineering, or other project-based environments is considered an asset.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience is considered an asset.
  • Strong accounting leadership experience with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Experience establishing, standardizing, and improving accounting processes and controls in a growing organization.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams and future leaders.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in accounting operations, reporting, controls, and process improvement.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented leader with a high level of autonomy.
