Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing the company’s operations across manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, compliance, and program execution while aligning operational strategy with corporate objectives and government contract requirements. Reporting to the company’s President, the COO will drive growth, operational efficiency, and cooperation across each division while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards, including U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and international defense compliance frameworks.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance on all relevant laws, regulations, and policies affecting defense contracts and procurement.
• Formulate and implement business strategies as directed by Company President
• Manage and direct day-to-day operations of the business or segments of the business in accordance with the Company strategy
• Assess current company processes, procedures, and compliance systems, then implement processes and procedures to position Company for future growth
• Working with the executive leadership team, review, assess and implement appropriate procedures, process, and training for business systems, Government Compliance and legal requirements, and other processes as needed.
• Seek out and evaluate strategic opportunities for the Company for consideration by the Company President
• Represent the Company to customers, business partners, and suppliers
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing operations team
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Promote cross-functional collaboration across all departments
• Supervise and direct functions and employees as assigned by the Company President
• Make decisions in the absence of the Company President in accordance with delegated authority
• Coordinating with Human Resources on recruiting and interviewing potential talent for positions across the organization.
• Coach, mentor and manage performance of salaried employees on continuous, or at times, on intermittent projects.
• Other projects and assignments as provided by company leadership.
Qualifications
• Candidates must be considered ITAR Authorized US Persons as defined under 22 CFR 120.62.
• Candidates must be lawfully permitted and comfortable working in facilities with access to firearms and munitions.
• This position is located onsite in our Tampa Office (not hybrid or remote)
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field required, MBA or relevant Masters’ Degree strongly preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in the defense industry required. Minimum 5 years of experience in executive level leadership role in the defense industry is strongly preferred.
• Must be able to travel, both domestically and internationally, 25 to 30% of the time, as business conditions may require.
• Experience with and understanding of financial reporting and budgets.
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent analytical, strategic and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate complex contractual, procurement, budgeting, scheduling and other business concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Quality Systems experience preferred, ISO 9001:2015 experience strongly preferred.
Physical Demands & Abilities
• Regularly spend long hours sitting and use of computers.
• Regular travel, both domestic and international, upwards of 25 to 30% of the time or as business needs require.
• Regularly move from sitting to standing positions effortlessly
• Frequently work on projects that require deadlines and attention to detail.
• Attending conferences and events that will require sitting, standing or walking for extended periods.
Working Conditions
Most of the work will be completed in an office environment with travel both domestic and international to suppliers, military installations, trade shows, conferences and other industry events.
