This position is responsible for evaluating and establishing the appropriateness of the Admission Impairment Group and Etiologic Diagnosis assignment relative to the existing clinical documentation within the medical record provided by healthcare providers. The PPS Coordinator performs clinical review of patients to determine medical necessity guidelines and CMS criteria for rehabilitation staff and physician documentation. The coordinator will identify CMG assignment based on clinical indicators to improve quality of documentation ensuring compliance established by the State and Federal regulations. This position educates staff and physicians to ensure documentation requirements are met. This position has interactions with the Medical Director related to documentation compliance and physician management of PPS dates. This position reviews and analyzes the IRF-PAI and other health records to identify relevant healthcare information of patient rehab encounters. The PPS coordinator is responsible for translating Rehabilitation Impairment Groups, Etiologic Diagnosis, Comorbid Conditions and Complications phrases utilized by healthcare providers into a coded form. This translation process requires interaction with healthcare providers to ensure the terms have been translated correctly. The coded information that is a product of the coding process is then utilized for reimbursement purposes, in the assessment of rehabilitation clinical care, to support medical research activity and to support the identification rehabilitation healthcare concerns critical to the public. The PPS coordinator must have a thorough understanding of the content of the IRF-PAI and medical records in order to be able to locate information in order to support or provide specificity of their assignment for CMG and Average Length of Stay. This position must keep informed of changes in treatment plans and complications and perform coding recommendations when physician documentation is vague or missing.
This position assesses patient/family health problems and resources, takes a leadership role in the development, implementation and outcomes evaluation of a plan for nursing care provided by the nursing team and provides technical nursing interventions to designated patient populations.
This position requires providing services to one or more age populations, including child through geriatric, in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

BSN, Five years experience in rehabilitation nursing

Possesses current State RN license.

Certified Registered Rehabilitation Nurse or scheduled tgo be taken within 3 years of hire.
