Overview

D412 is the structural engineering department responsible for all internal structures and shielding located in the VIRGINIA Class Propulsion Plant, and is seeking highly motivated candidates to support the following:

  • Providing design yard support for new construction activities at EB (Groton, CT and Quonset Point, RI facilities) and Newport News, VA
  • Developing technical work documents, conducting trade briefings and mock-up training in preparation for nuclear work, and providing deck plate support during accomplishment of nuclear work
  • Using a design build approach and working in a team environment to develop innovative solutions to solve new construction and commissioned ship problems
  • Incorporating producibility improvements, new designs, and advanced technologies in the propulsion plant structures and shielding areas

Responsibilities include technical analyses, procedure development, design integration, construction support, material and component selection. Engineers will provide onboard deck plate support of new construction submarines, which will involve interfacing with engineering, design and shipyard personnel, shipyard and engineering management, Naval personnel, prime contractor technical personnel, purchasing and other EB personnel. This position requires continued progression of technical and project management skills.

  • Ability to perform structural analyses and assessments
  • The candidate must possess strong technical, interpersonal, organizational, writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, be able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
  • Engineers must work well with all levels of engineering, operations, and the Navy.


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field
  • 0-4 years of post-graduate engineering experience

Preferred

  • Experience with submarine nuclear structures, systems, and components
  • Experience with submarine construction support
