This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Experienced Electrical Technical Field Advisor based in the United States.
This is a field-based technical leadership opportunity supporting the installation, commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems for gas and steam turbine equipment.
You will serve as a technical authority during power generation projects, outages, and commissioning activities.
The role combines hands-on electrical expertise with planning, problem-solving, documentation, and coordination of field resources.
You’ll work closely with customers, plant owners, construction teams, and internal stakeholders to keep complex assignments on track.
The position requires strong knowledge of excitation systems, turbine controls, generators, digital and analog controls, and associated software.
Frequent travel, including offshore assignments, is an integral part of the role, with flexibility required for weekends, holidays, and overtime.

- Install, commission, operate, and troubleshoot generator excitation systems, digital electronic starters (LCI), generator protection systems, and associated wiring for gas and steam turbines.
- Configure, modify, and troubleshoot hardware and software associated with turbine and generator control systems.
- Trace and interpret software documentation, modify control constants, and adjust software sequencing as required to support system performance.
- Implement excitation control system software changes and work with both legacy and modern operator interfaces, including DOS- and Windows NT-based systems.
- Apply knowledge of analog and digital controls, control logic, PLCs, instrumentation, and turbine auxiliary systems to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical direction for electrical wiring installation and termination, complete functionality checks, and troubleshoot turbine excitation and LCI systems.
- Perform and support turbine and generator start-up and shutdown sequencing, ensuring systems operate according to technical and contractual requirements.
- Review plant engineering documentation, including P&IDs and related technical materials, to understand system configurations and support field execution.
- Plan and coordinate pre-outage activities, installations, and field work, including labor, tools, materials, equipment, and other required resources.
- Support control of project costs, quality, equipment preservation, security, and safekeeping of turbine modules, tools, spare parts, trailers, cranes, and related assets.
- Provide clear technical updates and progress reports to customers, plant or utility owners, construction organizations, and other stakeholders as required.
- Develop or recommend field policies and procedures and proactively support continuous improvements in execution and operational practices.
- Collaborate effectively with field personnel, customers, and project teams while using sound judgment to resolve issues and keep assignments progressing.
- Travel frequently and work on offshore assignments when required, with flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime based on field schedules.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or at least 5 years of relevant experience without a formal degree.
- Relevant experience should include power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, power plant equipment installation, commissioning, or closely related field engineering work.
- Successful completion of all required technical and company training programs is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience successfully supporting power plant installations and outages, with the ability to operate independently while knowing when and where to seek additional technical guidance.
- Experience with gas turbine driver control systems and auxiliary systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with instrumentation, controls, PLCs, analog and digital control systems, and turbine control technologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, with practical experience diagnosing complex electrical, control, hardware, and software issues.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to understand and work with technical software documentation and operator interfaces.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, field teams, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, manage priorities, and plan and accomplish objectives using extensive technical and field experience.
- Comfortable working in dynamic, demanding field environments where assignments, schedules, and priorities can change quickly.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work offshore, as well as work holidays, weekends, and overtime when required by project assignments.
- Annual salary range of $75,300–$124,300, depending on qualifications, experience, and applicable compensation considerations.
