Job Summary
The Advanced Chemical Operator / Drum Handler is responsible for the safe transfer, handling, packaging, and disposal of hazardous chemical products within the warehouse facility. This role supports operations by transferring hazardous chemicals into containers and drums, flushing lines between product transfers, safely handling hazardous materials, and operating forklifts to move materials throughout the facility.
This role requires more in-depth clean up after drumming due to the nature of what is being packaged. The Advanced Chemical Operator requires training on how to do a steam flush to clean the lines after drumming. It also requires respirator fit test and training, a deeper dive into the SDS review process, emergency response and more extensive PPE training such as Tyvek suits, arm guards, face shields, safety goggles and anything else needed for safety. This role also requires training on how to operate and maintain the boiler since this is what powers the steam flush process. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safety, compliance, and operational efficiency in a chemical handling environment.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Transfer hazardous chemical products into containers, drums, and other packaging in accordance with company procedures and safety guidelines.
- Operate and monitor transfer systems including pumps, hoses, and valves during chemical transfers.
- Flush transfer lines and equipment between product runs to prevent contamination and ensure product integrity.
- Handle, store, and dispose of chemicals in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards.
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport drums, totes, and pallets within the facility.
- Label containers and ensure proper documentation of chemical transfers and inventory movements.
- Inspect containers, hoses, and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area in accordance with warehouse and environmental safety standards.
- Follow all safety procedures including use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with inventory management and material movement as needed.
- Report spills, equipment issues, or safety concerns immediately to management.
- At least 3 years experience as a Chemical Operator
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
- Ability to follow safety procedures and chemical handling protocols
- Advanced understanding of material handling and warehouse operations
