Job Description

SUMMARY: The Central Sterile RN, Nurse Manager is responsible for the development, supervision and coordination of the Central Sterile Department. Responsible for operations by planning, organizing and providing materials management, billing, and sterile processing services for the OR/hospital system departments. This position fosters a supportive, professional environment for staff. Responsible for overseeing inventory control: ordering of instruments and supplies, instrument maintenance: care, processing and repair. Responsible for implementation of staffing patterns, work schedules, and provides ongoing in-service to staff members. This position manages operations of the Central Sterile Processing Department on all shifts. The Central Sterile Department is responsible for Decontamination, Set Assembly/Preparation and Sterilization of all medical equipment in the hospital and clinic setting as well as all disposable supplies used for OR surgical case preparation. The Central Sterile RN, Nurse Manager promotes an environment of cooperative staff efforts within the unit and with other units, especially the operating room, as well as maintaining regulatory compliance. Ensures the effective communication of up-to-date information within the department and across departments. Provides supervision of personnel and oversight of daily operations of Central Sterile. Hold team members accountable for consistent delivery of service excellence through performance, quality and behavior standards and expectations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. ADN required. BSN or MSN preferred.

Licensure: Current Arkansas or Compact State RN license in good standing.

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in the operating room setting required. Previous supervisory experience in operating room setting preferred.

Certifications: Current BLS. CNOR and/or CSSM preferred. Maintains certification as CRCST or CSPDT, CHL, CIS, CST or CER

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without an accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing to solve problems and to make decisions. Ability to walk and stands frequently during shift while setting up instrument trays. Bends, squats and twists in excess of 4 hours during shift. Ability to push cart in excess of 200 pounds with equipment. Lifts instrument trays up to 25 pounds multiple times in a shift. Occasionally must wear face shield/mask and work in the presence of washers, decontaminators, Steris units and sterilizers. Must work with a variety of chemicals required in the decontaminations and sterilization of instruments and equipment used in surgical cases. Strong computer skills are needed and frequent time in front of computer utilizing keyboard and mouse. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure.

Hospital operating room, Central Sterile area, Sterile Hall, Pre-Op, PACU and office setting.
