Manager, Compensation Programs

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Compensation Programs based in the United States.

The Manager, Compensation Programs will lead the design, execution, and continuous improvement of enterprise compensation initiatives that support business strategy and employee success.
This role oversees critical compensation processes including merit planning, incentive programs, performance management, salary structures, and total rewards communications.
You will collaborate with HR, finance, payroll, HR technology, and business leaders to ensure programs remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
The position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, requiring expertise in compensation operations, analytics, and program management.
You will influence pay practices, improve compensation processes, and provide insights that support fair and effective decision-making.
Working in a remote-first and collaborative environment, you will help shape compensation strategies that strengthen employee engagement and organizational performance.

Accountabilities:

The Manager, Compensation Programs is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing compensation programs that support pay-for-performance principles and business objectives. This role acts as a strategic partner to leadership while ensuring accurate, efficient, and compliant compensation operations.

  • Lead the development, administration, and continuous improvement of compensation programs, including merit planning, incentive plans, performance management, promotions, and total rewards processes.
  • Manage annual compensation planning cycles, including salary increases, market adjustments, incentive funding, salary structures, and cost forecasting.
  • Oversee bonus program administration and ensure alignment with organizational objectives and compensation strategies.
  • Lead performance management processes, including system administration, testing, communications, training, reporting, and process improvements.
  • Manage the creation and distribution of total rewards statements and related employee communications.
  • Partner with HRIS, payroll, finance, technology teams, HR business partners, and business leaders to improve compensation systems and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop compensation communications, training materials, leader resources, and presentations to support understanding and adoption of programs.
  • Ensure compensation practices comply with applicable regulations, governance standards, and internal policies.
  • Analyze compensation data, market trends, workforce metrics, and program effectiveness to recommend improvements.
  • Build dashboards, executive reports, and key performance indicators to support compensation decision-making.
  • Support pay equity reviews, salary structure management, and compensation governance initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to leaders on compensation policies, practices, and employee-related decisions.
  • Lead strategic projects including system implementations, process redesigns, integrations, and organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation, procedures, and controls to ensure consistency, accuracy, and operational excellence.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive compensation expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and experience leading complex compensation programs in a dynamic business environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification or similar credential preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in compensation roles.
  • 7+ years of experience managing compensation programs, including incentive plans, merit processes, and performance management initiatives.
  • 2+ years of experience managing compensation professionals or leading a compensation team.
  • Strong experience with compensation structures, HR systems, reporting, and incentive compensation platforms.
  • Experience with Workday or similar HR technology platforms preferred.
  • Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and influence compensation-related decisions.
  • Strong project management skills and experience managing complex initiatives.
  • Experience with compensation analysis, incentive modeling, forecasting, and financial evaluations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
