Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (DEA)
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) – Radiation Oncology provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals receiving radiation therapy. Working collaboratively with radiation oncologists and the interdisciplinary care team, the APRN performs advanced assessments, develops and manages treatment plans, monitors treatment response, manages acute and long-term side effects, and provides education and supportive care throughout the cancer care continuum. This position practices within the scope of applicable licensure, credentialing, organizational policies, and evidence-based standards of care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited advanced practice nursing program required.
- Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Kentucky required.
- Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner required.
- DEA license required within 6 months from date of eligibility.
- Clinical experience in oncology, radiation oncology, or a closely related specialty.
- Knowledge of cancer diagnoses, radiation therapy principles, treatment protocols, and common acute and long-term treatment-related toxicities.
- Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive health assessments, formulate differential diagnoses, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and develop evidence-based plans of care.
- Skill in managing cancer-related symptoms and radiation treatment side effects, including pain, fatigue, skin reactions, gastrointestinal symptoms, and hematologic complications.
- Strong patient and family education skills, including the ability to communicate complex clinical information clearly and compassionately.
- Effective clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, social workers, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and use electronic health record systems effectively.
- Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, confidentiality, and culturally responsive care.
