Job Description

The Sports and Fitness Director will be responsible for all facets of the Sports and Wellness departments. The position will include the development and administration of the department; program development and promotion, implementation and evaluation, staff scheduling and supervision, and financial operation in accordance with Mahaska County YMCA goals, objectives and policies. This position will supervise the Wellness Attendants and Coaches, Group Exercise Instructors, Gym Monitors, and Sports Staff and co-coordinate with Leadership Team members to deliver birthday parties and special events.

Essential Functions:
1. Direct and supervise program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
2. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
3. Establish new program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
4. Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information, organize and schedule program registrations, and review and process program scholarship applications.
5. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
6. Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
7. Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events. Order necessary program supplies as budget permits. Set up facilities for program activities and maintain and inventory sports equipment.
8. Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
9. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
10. Guide assigned center committees in formulating policies and programs consistent with Strategic Plan and YMCA goals.
11. Support and facilitate collaborative relationships with parent groups.
12. Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program.

The successful candidate will possess a high attention to detail, commitment to cleanliness and the ability to work independently. Dependable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling. Ability to lift, move, and carry supplies or equipment as required.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
2. One to Two years related experience preferred.
3. Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
4. Strong management and decision making skills including the ability to influence, engage, and lead others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
5. Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills
6. Self-motivated, results driven, detail oriented and adaptable.
7. Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens certification or obtain within 60 days of hire.
8. Within 30 days of hire, completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff is required.
9. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
