POSITION SUMMARY:
The Production Technician II is an advanced technical role responsible for independently troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing complex construction equipment within the Genie Recon reconditioning operation. This position is designed for experienced technicians who enjoy identifying root causes, researching equipment behavior, analyzing system interactions, and solving non-routine mechanical and electrical failures.
Working primarily during production completion and quality inspection phases, the Production Technician II evaluates machine performance, investigates defects or system abnormalities, and determines appropriate corrective actions when issues extend beyond standard assembly or repair processes. This role requires strong diagnostic capability across hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, electronic, engine, powertrain, and integrated machine systems, along with the ability to independently validate repair effectiveness through operational testing and inspection.
The Production Technician II serves as a senior technical resource within the operation and is expected to apply sound judgment, technical precision, and a high level of accountability while supporting equipment quality, reliability, and customer expectations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Independently diagnose complex repair needs and determine appropriate repair strategies for Genie construction equipment owned by customers or the company, including non-routine and system-level issues.
- Perform advanced mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs, applying technical judgment when standard procedures do not clearly resolve the issue.
- Evaluate overall machine performance and identify root causes of failures across electronic, hydraulic, powertrain, engine, and integrated system functions; operate machines as needed to verify repair effectiveness.
- Disassemble and assemble complex machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized tooling provided by Genie/Genie Recon.
- Interpret technical manuals, work orders, and diagnostic data to determine corrective actions; research advanced repair needs and coordinate parts requests as required.
- Load or unload equipment or components from customer-owned or common carrier vehicles, as needed.
- Participate in and support the principles of Open Book Management.
- Employees may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. The frequency and duration of the duties described may vary based on production needs, equipment condition, and workflow requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two to five years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy or complex equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose equipment issues across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, powertrain, and engine systems using advanced diagnostic tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex machine schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic data.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment requiring prioritization, organization, and minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform math calculations accurately relevant to diagnostics and repair tasks.
PREFERRED SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE/ ABILITY/ EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience repairing Genie construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product lifecycle.
- Forklift experience or certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, fumes, noise, oils, grease, and varying temperatures for moderate to extended periods. Occasional office or desk-based work may be required. Employees must maintain knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and follow all safety standards and PPE requirements, including safety-toe shoes, safety glasses, etc..
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting 10%, standing/walking/climbing 90%. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; talk and hear.

Occasional overtime, extended weekday hours, or Saturday work may be required based on production schedules, customer demand, business needs, or operational requirements.
Full-Time | Regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week.
Actual hours worked may vary depending on workload, staffing needs, production demands, training requirements, or operational priorities. Overtime compensation is paid in accordance with applicable federal and state wage and hour laws.
