About This Position

Position Summary:

The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational security policies. The ISSO plays a key role in maintaining compliance with frameworks such as NIST, RMF, FISMA, and others as required. This role involves continuous monitoring, assessment, and risk mitigation of the organization’s IT systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure implementation and enforcement of security policies and procedures for information systems.

  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and risk assessments.

  • Develop and maintain system security plans (SSPs), risk assessment reports, and contingency plans.

  • Support the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process under the Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Coordinate with system owners, administrators, developers, and auditors to ensure system security requirements are addressed.

  • Monitor system security controls and report any security breaches or incidents.

  • Ensure compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and other relevant cybersecurity standards.

  • Maintain documentation to support accreditation and authorization activities.

  • Provide guidance and training to stakeholders on cybersecurity best practices.

  • Support incident response efforts and lead or assist in security investigations.

  • Participate in security working groups and maintain awareness of current threats and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in information system security or cybersecurity.

  • Working knowledge of NIST RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP, or DoD security frameworks.

  • Familiarity with security tools (e.g., vulnerability scanners, SIEM, endpoint protection).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • U.S. citizenship may be required for federal positions.

Preferred:

  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CAP, CISM, or Security+.

  • Experience with government or defense cybersecurity requirements.

  • Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, etc.).

  • Experience with eMASS, XACTA, or similar compliance tools.

Work Environment:
  • Remote - Houston, TX.

  • May require occasional travel.

  • May require security clearance depending on the organization or project.
