Position Summary:The Adult Education and Literacy Substitute Teacher provides instruction in the absence of the regular teacher to adult learners. This role supports students in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals by providing high-quality instruction in adult basic education, high school equivalency preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), or other adult education programs.

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Deliver engaging and effective lessons in accordance with the established curriculum, lesson plans, and program guidelines.
• Assist students in improving literacy, numeracy, ESL proficiency, or preparation for high school equivalency (GED, HiSET, etc.).
• Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning needs and styles of adult learners.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and other required documentation.
• Provide feedback and support to students to help them achieve their learning goals.
• Follow program policies, procedures, and classroom management strategies.
• Collaborate with program staff and administrators as needed to ensure continuity of instruction.

Qualifications:

• Experience—DESE Substitute Teaching Certificate or AEL Certification
• Education—Bachelor Degree from accredited four-year institution

Physical Requirements: Work involves sedentary to light work in office setting and able to lift up to 30 pounds. Employee accommodations for disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Standard Work Schedule: Flexible, as scheduled when needed for substitute coverage.

Travel Requirements: Workshop/training may require travel, which may include overnight travel.

Salary Range: $16.50 Per Hour
