About This Position
Job Title: Nursing Assistant
Location: Memorial Hospital - South Bend
As a Nursing Assistant, you will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse to provide direct, hands-on support to patients. Your responsibilities will vary by unit and may include assisting with patient hygiene, mobility, feeding, vital signs monitoring, and medical procedures. You will also support unit operations by maintaining supplies, transporting patients, and ensuring a clean, safe care environment.

Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient orientation.

Provide hygiene support (bathing, oral care, linen changes).

Feed or assist patients during meals.

Measure and record vital signs, weights, intake/output.

Respond to call lights and patient requests promptly.

Support patient mobility and positioning using safe techniques.

Perform skin care and wound dressing changes.
-
Assist with catheter care, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and specimen collection.

Set up suction, feeding, and monitoring equipment.

Respond to emergency codes and provide CPR as trained.

Report patient concerns or changes to the RN.

Transport patients and manage medical equipment/supplies.

Maintain cleanliness of workspaces, patient rooms, and utility areas.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
-
Nurse Assistant certification preferred.

Previous patient care experience desirable.

Basic math and computer skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and handle physical demands.

Maintain BCLS (CPR) and other role-specific certifications.

Complete required education, competencies, and health screenings.

Follow all infection control, safety, and compliance protocols.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods and safely assist with patient lifting/positioning up to 35 lbs (or more with assistance).
