JOB SUMMARY-ED PHYSICIAN

The ER Physician examines, diagnoses, and treats the initial and acute phase of illnesses and injuries. Does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATION:

• Meets the requirements of NMRMC credentialing.

KNOWLEDGE:

• In the general practice of emergency medicine.
• Of the operations of the emergency medical services system.
• Of the laws and ordinances pertaining to emergency medical services.
• Of educational principles and techniques.
• Of practices and techniques of report to review and analysis.

Fulfillment of education and experience requirements partially satisfies the knowledge requirement. Additional knowledge is mandatory in aspects of injury and illness.

SKILL:

• To perform the duties of an emergency care physician.
• In the formulation of medical procedures.
• In communicating highly technical medical information.
• In performing case reviews.

ABILITY:

• To establish effective working relationships among individuals and organizations.
• To perform medical procedures.
• To work well with volunteers.

JOB SUMMARY-PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

The Physician Assistant (PA) coordinates the provision of medical care in the Emergency Department in the absence of a physician and collaborates with other professionals and hospital departments to meet the needs of patients. The care given by the Physician Assistant is guided by the medical staff delineation of privileges and hospital credentialing processes, hospital policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and the scope of the Physician Assistant license.

The Physician Assistant:

• Perform an initial medical assessment of patients and determine the course of medical treatment in consultation with the physician (as needed and/or desired by the physician).
• Initiate appropriate treatment, perform procedures, administer medication, and perform patient education.
• Maintain control of pre-hospital care of patients and/or victims by radio contact with the ambulance.
• Work cooperatively with Nursing Services personnel to ensure the smooth operation of Emergency Services.
• Delegate patient care responsibilities according to the level of care required.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned. May be expected to work varying hours, holidays, and weekends.

EXPERIENCE:

• Preferred, but not required.

JOB SUMMARY-NURSE PRACTITIONER

The Nurse Practitioner (APRN) coordinates the provision of medical care in the emergency services area in the absence of a physician and collaborates with other professionals and hospital departments to meet the needs of patients. The care given by the Nurse Practitioner is guided by the medical staff delineation of privileges and hospital credentialing processes, hospital policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and the scope of the Nurse Practitioner’s license.
