Job Description
Under the direct supervision of registered pharmacists, Pharmacy technicians assist in the preparation and filling of medication orders and medication carts; performs critical pharmacy calculations; compounds sterile and non-sterile preparations using appropriate pharmaceutical technique. Utilizes various computerized programs and technical equipment for the various functions listed above. Performs medication distribution to patients. Performs nursing unit quality assurance inspections. Restocks and reorders necessary pharmacy inventory. Satisfactorily passes required hospital and government validation examinations.
Essential Functions
Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
⦠Fills provider orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts, and stock requisitions accurately.
⦠Replenishes medications in emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
⦠Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
⦠Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
⦠Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
⦠Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
⦠Identifies and replaces outdated unusable drugs
⦠Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas accurately within specific time periods.
⦠Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques.
Contributes to the effective operation of the department.
⦠Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
⦠Answers the telephone, identifying self and department, directs calls to appropriate personnel
⦠Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
⦠Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; files documentation in appropriate locations
Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department
⦠Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections and identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications
⦠Works under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist
Demonstrates competence in automated dispensing equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures.
⦠Accurately fills medications on restock lists until checked and verified by a pharmacist
⦠Loads medications from restock lists into automated distribution system correctly ensuring that outdate medications are removed and look-alike-sound-alike medications are segregated
⦠Empties and reconciles contents of return bins
⦠Inspects medication in automated distribution equipment ensuring removal of expired and unusable medications and reconciliation of inventories.

Minimum Education/Certifications
⦠High school graduate or equivalent degree
⦠Maintain National Pharmacy Technician Certification in good standing
Minimum Work Experience
⦠At least one year of Pharmacy Technician experience required
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full-time with shift as assigned

⦠Manual and finger dexterity to operate computer & equipment
⦠Walking, standing and lifting of materials/equip up to 60lbs
