GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Acts as lead worker and performs a variety of specialized tasks related to custodial care of county buildings; does related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a custodial supervisor who assigns and reviews work performed.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class. However, may exercise lead direction over other custodial personnel and temporary employees and covers in the absence of the supervisor.

- Understands and carries out written and verbal instructions.
- Empties trash and recycling on multiple floors in county buildings.
- Removes surface dirt/debris from hard floor surfaces and carpeting and disposes of dirty water.
- Fills carpet extractor with hot water and disposes of dirty water.
- Possess and maintain a current Oregon driver's license and an acceptable driving record so able to drive a motor vehicle to commute, in a timely manner, between facilities located at various sites within the county.
- Removes surface dirt/dust on horizontal surfaces at a variety of heights.
- Cleans windows, mirrors and glass at a variety of heights.
- Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals, sinks, walls and partitions.
- Prepares chemicals as per instructions.
- Disposes trash and recycling in proper dumpsters.
- Responds to customer special requests for removal of debris, clean up of spills, etc...
- Operates and cleans various equipment.
- Lifts equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Maintains punctual and regular attendance.
- Contact with agitated building staff, co-workers and the public.
- Establishes and maintains professional, effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, supervisors, other departments and agencies.
- Complies with department and county policies, procedures and regulations.
- Maintain building security.
- Complete required training.
- Attend informational and training meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Graduation from high school, or equivalent, AND
- Two years experience in custodial work; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
- Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business. - This assignment is represented by a union.
- This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures, and cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, waxes and polishes; the care and maintenance of cleaning equipment, procedures and tools; the care of hard surface floors and carpets. Knowledge of the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
Skill and ability to operate motor-driven cleaning equipment, work independently, understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; perform manual tasks for extended periods; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with other employees, tenants, the public, and other agencies; work evenings; operate a motor vehicle; provide training to others; give and prioritize work assignments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; stands, bends; sits, stoops, moves about the work area, bending forward; reaches overhead; lifts 50 lbs.; carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.; pushes and pulls items weighing up to 75 lbs.; operates a keyboard; rapid-mental/hand-eye coordination; speaks in a clear and audible voice; reads 12 point font; distinguish colors/shades; twisting 90 degrees radius; walking; turning neck 180 degrees radius; smelling; repetitive motion of hands, feet, and wrists; handling and grasping; ability to hear at a normal speech level; independent judgement; customer service; possible risk of exposure to blood/body fluids, dust, heat, cold, uneven areas; works in normal office environment.
