Pay Range: $20.96-$32.48 Hourly

Pay Transparency:

The above reflects the anticipated annual salary range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Financial Counselor conducts financial screenings of patients in order to secure payment for healthcare services for those that are uninsured and underinsured.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Computer experience
  • A minimum of three years insurance authorization/pre-certification experience

Preferred:

  • Similar hospital billing or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Charity Care. Uncompensated Care, and Medicaid guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of insurance, insurance verification and TOS collections.
  • Prior experience in hospital admissions
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Bilingual

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor work queues to ensure timely approvals and follow up in electronic application.
  • Completes and handles all screenings and applications in accordance with Charity Care/State Regulations/Department Policies.
  • Review assigned reports to verify insurance and/or government program eligibility.
  • Meets Department productivity and quality standards.
  • Report any discrepancies or problems with accounts and follows through for resolution. Escalates by policy and procedure, all cases which may be at risk for payment
  • Travel may be required to any/all RWJBH locations
  • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.
  • Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records.
  • Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Listens and communicates effectively
  • Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc.
  • Provides support at off site locations as needed
  • Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions.
  • Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate.
  • Makes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticism.
  • Participates in ongoing education as required.
