SUMMER INTERN - Communications Aide at Fairfax Water – Fairfax, Virginia

Under the supervision of the Public Affairs Manager, the Communication Aide will provide administrative support to the Public Affairs team.

• Support the goals of Fairfax Water to enhance effective communication internally and externally by:
  • Supporting the development of two key reports for Fairfax Water customers (Consumer Confidence Report and Popular Financial Report), including recommendations for the design and layout.
  • Researching and preparing information and reports for internal and external meetings, events, and presentations.
  • Developing content and articles for the employee newsletter
  • Drafting content and graphics for social media posts and website content
• Gain firsthand experience in how water utilities support communities and ensure sustainability.

• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Organizational Skills: Demonstrated organizational and administrative abilities.
• Independent Worker: Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple projects and deadlines.
• Collaborative: Works well with others to develop and refine ideas.
• Technical Proficiency: Experienced in publishing software such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Innovative - Devises new and better ways of doing things.
• Written & Oral Communication - Good communicator both orally and in writing.

• Enrolled in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Public Administration undergraduate degree program, or a relevant program from an accredited school.
• Possess a valid driver's license in good standing.
• Pass a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening.
• Specific safety requirements.
• Position Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

• Minimum of 2 years of completed coursework.
