RS&H is currently seeking a Roadway Engineer to join our Transportation Infrastructure Practice in Portland, OR.
This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote. As part of the infrastructure team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm by preparing project specifications; preparing complete project documents, analysis, and reports; analyzing and interpreting data; performing analyses of design, planning, and impact studies, as well as cost analyses, design requirements, site selection, and limited design layouts; designing complete projects, systems, components, and/or processes; and performs quality control reviews and field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects. This position may also provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration and/or manage discipline and small multidisciplinary teams.
The Roadway Engineer will be responsible for marketing and managing roadway design and transportation projects of varying size and scope for Oregon and Washington DOTs and other clients, including local municipalities, as well as assisting discipline and area leaders in continuing to build the transportation engineering practice in Portland and the PNW. The successful candidate will have experience performing diverse and complex work tasks in areas of engineering, mentoring, and management. Additional responsibilities include client communication/management; managing sub-consultants; mentoring junior roadway/highway staff; coordinating with discipline key task leaders and staff to ensure ongoing communications; performing quality control on deliverables; monitoring and meeting project deliverable schedules and budgets for assigned projects; and supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Professional registration (PE) within the field of engineering with the ability to obtain an Oregon PE and/or Washington within 6 months
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and overall quality control and schedule management
- Ability to track individual project tasks and financial management of individual and overall project tasks
- Ability to market and maintain positive and trusted relationships with clients, staff, and sub-consultant partners
- Strong supervisory skills leading multiple teams and people, and established client relationships/marketing and business development experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent experience with and knowledge of Oregon and/or Washington DOTs policies and procedures
- OpenRoads Designer/3D modeling experience
- Safety and complete streets project experience
- Complex interchange design experience
- Experience in a project management and administration role on complex transportation projects, including design-bid-build, design-build, and/or on-call contracts (e.g. CSC, GEC, or Program Management contracts);
- Working knowledge of Bentley highway design programs (OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, Geopak, ProjectWise, etc.)
