Job Description

SUMMARY
Reporting facilities Director, the General Maintenance/Event Services Worker duties includes general building and ground maintenance, assisting with campus projects, staging, grounds work, and daily support for facilities services. This position is designated as an Essential Personnel position requiring the incumbent to report to campus regardless of whether the University is closed, has a delayed opening, or closing early.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other related duties may be assigned.

Performs general maintenance building and grounds maintenance, event set-ups, setting up/taking down and relocating office furniture, delivering and installing specialty items and equipment, keeping areas clear, replacing light bulbs/lamps, ceiling tile, window treatments, performing minor punch list work, special project completion, and other general maintenance activities as assigned. Must have a valid driver’s license and will be expected to drive university owned vehicles and equipment as required. Performs snow, ice and debris removal from roads, sidewalks, and athletic fields. Overtime [OT] may be mandatory for student orientation, move-in, commencement/graduation, move-out, and special events as needed.

This is a compensated on-call position. All maintenance mechanics are required to take a week-long shift wherein they will be available after regular work hours for emergency situations.

Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and, two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Skills
The ability to perform basic maintenance functions, e.g., painting and repairs, and to use basic tools. Basic computer skills, emailing, updating Inventory, and work order system use.


Language Skills
The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.


Interpersonal Skills
The ability to communicate effectively and interact in a courteous and professional manner with others.

Reasoning Ability
The ability to apply common sense understanding in effectively carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current, valid driver's license required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
