Overview

As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you are a key technical leader within the ECS (Environmental Control System) Team. You lead the design, development, and maturation of complex composite and metallic structures, ducting systems, fluid and thermal control components, acoustic treatments, and both stand alone and integrated heater solutions across diverse applications.

You are accountable for translating customer and system requirements into robust, producible designs, while providing technical direction throughout the full product lifecycle. This includes concept development, detailed design, tooling strategy, verification and qualification, production transition, and in-service issue resolution. You serve as a subject matter expert, drive technical decisions, lead assigned projects, mentor less experienced engineers, and represent the engineering organization in formal technical and program reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for assigned ECS projects, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, performance, and certification requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leadership, finance, manufacturing engineering, quality, testing, program management, and production support teams to meet program objectives.
  • Lead the generation of product concepts, detailed designs, tooling concepts, drawings, and parts lists based on customer data, applied loads, performance requirements, material selection, and environmental constraints.
  • Drive design and analysis activities that meet internal standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Guide prototype development and lead efforts to transition designs into repeatable, costeffective production.
  • Design and validate tooling and fixtures required to reliably manufacture ECS components and assemblies.
  • Serve as a technical authority in diagnosing and resolving complex issues encountered during development, testing, production, or field operation.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of escapes, nonconformances, and customerreported field issues, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Own the generation and accuracy of parts lists and digital bills of material (BOMs), including subassemblies, fasteners, tooling, and hardware.
  • Lead development of technical documentation such as Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP), Qualification Test Procedures (QTP), qualification reports, and qualification by analysis and similarity justifications.
  • Produce and approve highquality 3D models and 2D engineering drawings in compliance with ANSI and ASME Y14 GD&T standards and industry best practices.
  • Present technical status, risks, and recommendations at internal and external design and program reviews.
  • Actively mentor and support the technical development of junior and midlevel engineers.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent technical field with 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in an engineering design and development environment.
  • Deep experience designing mechanical components and systems utilizing advanced composites, elastomers, and metallic materials (e.g., ECS components, ducts, multilayer panels).
  • Strong working knowledge of aerospace composite and metallic manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive complex technical problems to closure.
  • Proven track record of knowledge sharing, mentoring, and technical leadership within engineering teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD modeling and detailed drawing creation using SolidWorks and/or CATIA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to crossfunctional and customer audiences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Capabilities:

  • Experience serving as a project engineer or technical lead on multidisciplinary development programs.
  • Familiarity with RTCA/DO160 and/or MILSTD810 environmental qualification standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to define test strategies, author test procedures, and lead development, qualification, and certification testing.
  • Experience performing or directing stress analysis and simulations (ANSYS preferred).
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
