Who We Are:
AXIS is more than a school — we are a community movement preparing students to become the global citizens our world needs. We believe in nurturing bilingualism, academic excellence, and strong character through a multicultural, inclusive environment. Our students are empowered to lead with knowledge, empathy, and purpose in both local and global communities.
Position Description:
AXIS is seeking a hard-working, flexible paraprofessional whose primary purpose is to improve student academic and behavioral outcomes. Paraprofessionals at AXIS are school-based instructional staff assigned by the school to meet student needs—not assigned exclusively to individual teachers or certain content/grades. They are a valuable but limited resource, deployed where they can have the greatest impact on student engagement, intervention support, and behavioral consistency.
For the 26-27 School Year, this paraprofessional position supports a morning 1st grade French Immersion classroom and elementary schoolwide lunch duties. Hours are 7:30–12:30 (may have some flexibility).
Position Responsibilities:
1. Behavioral Support (Primary Priority):
• Implement behavior plans and provide consistent support for students with identified needs, may include students with 504 Plans, IEPs, or MTSS plans.
• Use schoolwide PBIS/MTSS-aligned strategies and active supervision to prompt, redirect, and reinforce expectations during whole/small group instruction, transitions, and time in non-classroom settings (recess, lunch, pick up, drop off, etc.).
• Support regulation strategies and maintain a calm, positive learning environment.
2. Intervention & Academic Support:
• Reinforce teacher-led instruction.
• Increase student engagement and participation; provide checks for understanding.
• Lead and run WIN (What I Need) intervention groups.
• Support small group instruction and reteaching; provide individualized support to students with varying learning needs, may include students with 504 Plans, IEPs, or MTSS plans.
3. Assessment Support:
• Support administration of assessments and help monitor student progress.
• Provide observational data to teachers and grade level and MTSS teams.
4. Classroom & Schoolwide Support:
• Support transitions, arrival, lunch, recess, and duty coverage.
• Assist with classroom flow to maximize instructional time.
• Flex across classrooms as needed/assigned to meet student needs.
• When a teacher is absent, the para may step into the lead role as appropriate; a substitute may be assigned to support based on classroom needs.
5. Teacher/Team Support:
• Assist with preparing classroom materials and light organizational tasks as time allows.
• Note: This work should be secondary to instructional responsibilities.
• Attend work and arrive in a timely manner; attend appropriate staff meetings, training, and/or school events.
• Perform any additional duties as assigned, which are consistent with the effective and orderly operation of this position and the school’s educational goals.
6. Team Expectations:
To be effective, paraprofessionals and teachers must operate as a team. Paraprofessionals are expected to:
• Take initiative in supporting students and teacher and communicate observations and needs to teachers.
• Be flexible and responsive to schoolwide priorities.
• Align on behavior expectations and instructional strategies with classroom teachers and MTSS teachers.
