The CVS Program Chair/Program Director works to fulfill school objectives by providing leadership in curriculum development, planning, coordinating, staffing, and training in the assigned program area under the guidance of the Director of Education. Program Directors must also meet and fulfill the duties and responsibilities of Instructors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duty 1: Teamwork/Oversight/Professional Development Responsibilities:

• Assist the Director of Education in the hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of program area Instructors.

• Orient, monitor, supervise, mentor and assist new Instructors.

• Ensure that all program area Instructors adhere to required administrative and classroom delivery duties and requirements as outlined in the job description for Instructor.

• Ensure completeness of faculty files and documentation of official transcripts, professional development, observations, and performance reviews

• Provide leadership and support to full-time and part-time day and evening Instructors and supervise their instructional and program needs.

Provide input to the Director of Education regarding performance appraisals of department faculty members including areas of strength and recommendations for improvement and future skill set development.

• Conduct regular faculty meetings.

• Provide information to all departments as trends and changes in program specialty areas occur.

• Assist admissions personnel with student recruitment as requested Promote faculty participation and provide leadership in the professional development activities of program faculty members.

• Participate actively in a minimum of one professional organization within the community.

• Attend faculty meetings and in-service programs. Maintain a record of professional development activities.

• Maintain current personal knowledge of federal, state, institutional regulations and accreditation standards related to program area.

• Participate in preparation of government and accreditation report and ensure their timely submission and accuracy.

• Assist the Director of Education in evaluating data collected from student questionnaires and conduct faculty conferences when necessary to discuss the results and provide recommendations for improvement.

• Maintain regular office hours including Friday and evening hours each week to ensure consistency between day and evening policies, procedures and instruction.

• Collaborate with peers and associates to ensure coordination of interdepartmental activities.

• Intervene in and work to resolve any personnel issues that arise among program area Instructors.

• Assist the Director of Education in planning program budgetary needs.

• Perform all duties of a full-time Instructor. Teach up to five classes depending on program size and other responsibilities beyond this job description.

• Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Education or Campus Director

Duty 2: Student/Oversight/Activities Responsibilities:

• Maintain regular contact with all day and evening students within the program area and be available to respond to their questions and/or concerns. Post student office hours Provide student advising for scheduling and program-specific guidance Refer students to appropriate staff for non-academic problem resolution Participate in each term's New Student Orientation Program; also orient re- entering students returning to school.

• Call students who miss two consecutive days from class or whose absence during the week results in more than four absences during the term. Record the results of those calls.

• Monitor the calls, and results of calls, from Instructors to students in assigned program areas). Make calls weekly to students who a) were not called or could not be reached; b) did not return as promised; or (c) did not offer plans to return by a specific date. Offer appropriate academic advice and demonstrate genuine interest in students. Record the results of those calls. Mail postcards to students who cannot be reached by phone.

• Meet with all first-term students individually within the first three weeks to discuss their assimilation into school life.

• Advise students who receive failing mid-term reports in addition to advisement provided by Instructors.

• Provide or arrange for student tutoring when indicated Monitor and participate in retention initiatives.

• Sponsor an active student club related to the program area and encourage student participation in professional organizations within their field.

• Monitor extra-curricular student activities related to the assigned program of study.

Duty 3: Curriculum and Instructional Materials Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation, review, maintenance and effectiveness of the program's curriculum.

• Assist the Director of Education to ensure that the curriculum meets employer needs and course performance objectives are current.

• Assist the Director of Education and coordinate the Advisory Board activities of local industry representatives to provide external curricula feedback.

• Assist the Instructors to ensure all course objectives are met as outlined on the school's official syllabus and course outline.

• Keep well informed and current on course requirements to ensure that the correct textbooks are being ordered and used in the classroom.

• Review, evaluate, and recommend in coordination with Instructors, new instructional texts. materials, hardware and software items for the program and Library/Resource Center

• Maintain a file of Instructors' manuals and keys that accompany the tests and workbooks used in departmental course offerings and maintain the confidentiality of these files.

Maintain a file of up-to-date course syllabi, outlines, bibliographies and library research assignments for each course.

• Review and keep a file of examinations given by the department where feasible, and especially in sequential courses, arrange for the administration of departmental examinations.

• Monitor classroom instructional materials including equipment in the classrooms and laboratories, bulletin boards and supplemental teaching aids. Coordinate the supply orders of Instructors in program area

• Provide input into creating the master schedule regarding course sequencing, offerings, room assignments and Instructor teaching assignments. Ensure the best instruction on the basis of the students' needs, faculty competencies and the instructional objectives of courses and programs.

• Manage externship, student clinic, practicum and/or related programs.

Requirements:

• Three+ years related field experience; Five + years teaching experience preferred.

• Previous educational or related supervisory experience preferred

• One of the following registries: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS); Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
