Job Description Summary

The Department of Computer Information Systems at Bentley University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer position to begin July 1, 2026. We seek an experienced application developer and educator to teach across our software development curriculum, from object-oriented programming through advanced and mobile application development. This position addresses a strategic need to strengthen the department's application development expertise. The ideal candidate brings current industry experience, including familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, and can prepare students for careers in an increasingly AI-augmented software development landscape.

Bentley is committed to the teacher-scholar model where teaching, scholarship, service and community engagement are expected and valued. We seek qualified faculty who represent diverse backgrounds, interests and talents and share a commitment to high ethical standards and a willingness to embrace challenge and change.

The Bentley CIS department is one of the largest IS departments among U.S. academic institutions. At the undergraduate level, the department offers three majors — Computer Information Systems, Finance and Technology (FinTech), and Artificial Intelligence for Innovation — along with four minors in CIS, Data Technologies, Cybersecurity, and Managing Digital Technologies. The department also contributes courses to the undergraduate general education core, the graduate analytics core, MBA core, and MBA concentrations. Areas of teaching include business intelligence and analytics, applied artificial intelligence and generative AI, machine learning, data and information management, business process management, cybersecurity, FinTech, Health IT, IS strategy, organizational and societal impact of IT, enterprise architecture, enterprise systems, cloud computing, computing and communication infrastructure, web and mobile technologies, NLP, application development, Python programming, and IT project management. The department's CIS Sandbox serves as a collaborative, peer-led social learning space that connects students with cutting-edge technology and industry engagement opportunities. The CIS faculty's scholarship encompasses several areas of information systems and computer science, and their research receives external funding and appears in leading publication outlets. Bentley's high graduation and retention rates and top-ranked Pulsifer Career Center reflect a commitment to student success and inclusiveness. With a strong faculty of teacher-scholars, Bentley strives to be a "Force for Good" through the integration of business with the arts and sciences, and a strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. Teaching load for lecturer positions is 8 courses per year.

The initial course portfolio for this position centers on CS 213 Web Development and Programming. A successful candidate must be prepared to teach this course immediately upon joining the department. Over time, we expect the position to evolve toward AI-focused coursework as the curriculum develops in that direction; candidates who can demonstrate readiness to teach in this emerging area will have a distinct advantage in the review process.
