The Water Research and Data Analyst will work closely with the Pittsburgh Water Collaboratory Director and Leadership team to help advance key environmental research and capacity building initiatives across our internal and external networks. Duties include spatial and statistical analysis, field sampling, environmental sensor operations, and data interpretation The Analyst will curate datasets and share them openly per funder requirements and translate findings into public-facing research products such as community consensus reports, science briefs, and science communication for social media. The Analyst may also contribute to manuscripts and technical figures. They will, along with PWC leadership, support the development and advancement of broad and diverse relationships, with a focus on seeding and supporting collaborative water research teams and student research efforts. Additionally, the Analyst will help lead targeted efforts to provide technical assistance and build capacity among PWC's partners, to raise the quality and impact of community science efforts. The position will be supervised by the Director.
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential Functions
The position requires a detailed understanding of temporal and spatial data analysis. Familiarity with mapping (ArcGIS) and programming tools (ex. R, python, matlab) is necessary. The ability to develop data visualizations is fundamental. The position will perform field research techniques (sample collection, wading in streams, using sensors, etc.) in both urban and remote locations.
Physical Effort
The ability to lift 30lbs and carry supplies over distance, along with the capacity to walk over a mile across uneven terrain. The position will involve being on and in the water, wading into streams, some work may occur using a boat, canoe, or kayak.
