POSITION SUMMARY Independently performs scheduled inspection, testing, and documentation of water-based fire protection, fire alarm, and backflow prevention systems. Identifies deficiencies, communicates life-safety impacts, maintains required credentials, and delivers complete, accurate, and timely reports in accordance with adopted codes, manufacturer instructions, company procedures, and jurisdictional requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Plan assigned routes, confirm site contacts and access, review prior reports and system history, arrive within scheduled windows, and maintain professional communication with customers and office staff.

· Inspect and test wet, dry, preaction, deluge, standpipe, fire pump, private fire service main, hydrant, water-storage, and related water-based systems in accordance with NFPA 25 and the adopted edition required by the authority having jurisdiction.

· Inspect and functionally test fire alarm control units, initiating devices, notification appliances, supervising stations, power supplies, interfaces, releasing functions, and sprinkler supervisory/alarm signals in accordance with NFPA 72 and approved procedures.

· Perform backflow prevention assembly testing using properly maintained and calibrated test equipment; complete utility/AHJ forms and comply with UF TREEO certification and local water-purveyor requirements.

· Conduct main-drain, waterflow, valve, alarm, supervisory, battery, sensitivity, fire-pump, trip, and other required tests without creating avoidable impairment, property damage, false dispatch, or disruption to customer operations.

· Coordinate monitoring-system test status, impairment notifications, fire-watch needs, shutdowns, restorations, and acceptance of systems with customers, supervising stations, service teams, and authorities as required.

· Document device counts, locations, readings, results, deficiencies, photos, model/serial information, test-equipment data, and corrective recommendations in company software; issue required tags and reports accurately and on time.

· Classify deficiencies consistently, explain findings without overstating code authority, identify urgent life-safety conditions, and generate clear repair recommendations and service leads for estimating and follow-up.

· Perform limited troubleshooting and minor corrections only within training, authorization, licensing, and approved scope; obtain approval before billable repairs and escalate design, programming, or impairment issues.

· Maintain custody, calibration status, and readiness of meters, gauges, backflow kits, smoke/heat test equipment, ladders, tools, labels, and vehicle stock; report damaged or out-of-tolerance equipment immediately.

· Follow OSHA, company, customer, electrical-safety, ladder/lift, PPE, lockout/tagout, confined-space, and impairment procedures; report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and accidental activations immediately.

· Maintain required licenses, permits, certifications, continuing education, manufacturer training, and code knowledge; support after-hours, weekend, emergency, and regional assignments when business needs require.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & CREDENTIALS

· High school diploma or GED and at least two years of relevant inspection/service experience. Strong working knowledge of NFPA 25, NFPA 72, inspection frequencies, test procedures, impairments, and deficiency documentation.

· Current NICET Level II certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems and NICET Level II in Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems required. A candidate holding one may be considered if qualified to obtain the second within a company-approved period.

· Current UF TREEO Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester certification, including required two-year recertification; Backflow Repair and Maintenance certification preferred. Must also hold any water-purveyor approvals required for assigned territories.

· For Florida assignments: active Water-Based Fire Protection Inspector Permit and Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA) credential required as applicable; BASA required only when assigned burglar/security system work. Maintain all state/local permits and continuing education.

· Proficient with inspection software, mobile devices, digital reports, email, photos, and basic electrical/mechanical test equipment; able to read plans, riser diagrams, sequence-of-operations documents, and inspection records.

· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; authorized to work in the United States; able to pass job-related background, driving, and customer-site screening requirements.

PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS

· Regularly lift/carry up to 50 lb.; climb ladders and stairs; work from approved lifts and in overhead, confined, elevated, hot, cold, wet, dusty, noisy, or otherwise difficult positions; stand, bend, kneel, reach, and walk large facilities for extended periods.

· Wear required PPE and work safely around active construction, operating facilities, noise, moving equipment, and varying weather. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.

PAY

$35 - $45 an hour with a moving reimbursement/bonus of $7500 after 90 days of successful employment.
